Going from an F to Z visa

I am in the process of having my full time employers here in Beijing arrange my working visa.
Previously I was on an F visa that was got through an agent.
Will I have to leave the country to get my working visa issued or can I stay here?

if you want to get Z visa(work permit),you need to leave china once .
of course if you do not have time to leave ,you can stay in beijing during the procedure,but your company needs offer the letter to the psb to prove you are busy.

Hi there,
Actually you dont need to leave China as there are two ways to get a Z working visa:
First way, apply for employment/foreign expert licence and Z invitatino letter , hold them to apply Z outside China mainland;
Second way, apply for employment/foreign expert licence and then change F to Z directly in Bj.

you don't need leave but have to ask for help for the F to Z conversion from the agents. Cause the company can not apply such kind of conversion by themselves.
Another solution is that you can apply a Z visa invitation letter. But you have to leave to apply a Z visa in Chinese Embassy.
Anyway, the L or F to Z conversion would not cost much. As a result, the conversion without leaving should be better.

Generally speaking, there are two ways to get Z visa, one is to go to Hk, another is to rely on a visa agent to change your current F to Z visa without leaving china.
Visa agent can help you to convert F to Z directly here in beijing, but on the condition that the company you are going to work with must be authourized and has right to hire foreigners.
The cost for F-Z conversion is reasonable.
The first step is to get Employment License or Foreign Expert Certificate, then change F to Z visa here in Bejing.
