RP expires- how much "grace" time after?

My RP expires June 30th. I'm working for a foreign company that has partnerships set up with schools in China. This company assigns teachers to work in their designated schools in various cities throughout China. So on Friday I was told that I will be going to another city to work in one of their other schools. That's fine. But I need more time in my current city to get things finished up. I have animals to transport and my house contents.

My company is pretty good but there are the usual miscommunications that happen/have happened. Last summer when I started working for this company I went to the new school in late June (when I had finished my contract at my old school) and they were surprised to see me, but got busy on getting me a new visa/rp. I'm thinking this new school is not going to have the paperwork ready for starting the process of my new visa/rp. There isn't much time left of this month and we have the dragon boat holiday this week coming up.

My question is- Is there some kind of "grace" period after your rp has finished that allows you to stay here in China? What happens with my local police station? I live off campus and have registered with them as required. I don't want the cops banging on my door!

Technically -do you have to leave/have a new visa/rp immediately upon the expiration of the old one?

I think if I had about an extra 2 weeks the new school could get their act together and get the required paperwork ready.

I also am not exactly sure I want to go the route of getting an L visa. Would I have to go back to HK when the new school does get their paperwork together?

Sorry if this is confusing.

There is NO "grace" period, i.e. you have to do something before your residence permit expires. Or you will be fined for the overstay.

Since you work for almost the "same" company, you can ask the foreign company in Beijing to renew your RP in Beijing for some extra months. It is not big deal for them.
Then both the school in the other city and you have more time to prepare for your residence permit renewal.

Don't try to get a new L or F visa. It will make things messed up.

Leeo is right, no grace period, every overstayed day is fined 500rmb. Better to have BJ school renew your visa, then have the contract terminated leaving you free to work with non-BJ school as they renew your new work permit. Or have non-BJ school renew your visa now, although this would cause some issues with your current work. If you apply for L visa in between you will need to go through all the work visa applications, incl. physical examination. Lots of hassle.

Umm, I don't live in bj. Does this make a difference?

I've been thinking about this more and would like to stay in my current city until mid-late August. Here I can at least DO something like part time teaching. If I go to my new village right now I have a feeling it's gonna be a whole lot of down time twiddling my thumbs waiting for September to come around. I don't have the "contacts" established for a new city yet(finding work on the side) and from what I've read on the net, they're sending me to the boonies which is fine with me.

SO! Could I at least get the new school to send me the paperwork for a new Z visa. Get it processed by a visa agency if necessary or can I take the z visa paperwork here to my local psb and process it myself? Getting a new Z visa would give me a maximum 30 days before it needs to get converted to an rp.

Can one extend their rp?

Thanks
