F visa (plus laptop) - HONG KONG vs BEIJING!?

hey,
i need to get an f visa. i plan to be in china longer than a year so will need to get this extended. my two options are:
a) get f visa in beijing. get 6-month (or more?) extension in beijing.
b) get train to hong kong. get f visa in hong kong. get train back to beijing. get 6-month (or more?) extension in beijing.
which option do you think will be cheaper? i have heard getting the visa in hong kong is cheaper, but then there are (train) travel costs...
to complicate matters - i also want to buy a new laptop. i have heard this is also a lot cheaper in hk than beijing.

I thought you need to find the right China Visa Agency in Beijing to help you out of this situation, before you went out of China.
