Any UK passport holders planning to renew their passports through the British Embassy should check the embassy website as UK passports can no longer be renewed in Beijing. There is an option to send your passport by courier to Hong Kong, but the website gives contradictory advice and there are some complications, like having to pay in Hong Kong dollars and having to give a return address in English!!! I am not even sure if the couriers in my part of town read pinyin.
