3-D TV?

I'm updating my television next month.

I'm sticking with Sharp, as the one I've had for years has been great.

They've got two I'm looking at, both 60", only one has 3D capabilities and one doesn't.

The price difference is about 5,000 quai.

I have no idea if 3D capabilities on a TV is something that is going to be worthwhile in the future. My inclination is not.

Is there anyone out there who can give me some advice on this?

I guess it would be kind of cool to have a 3D TV, but I don't even really understand how that works... do I need to wear stupid glasses?

aier?

Re: 3-D TV?

If you buy one now you'll be kicking yourself in the nuts in six months time. Guaranteed the price will drop and there'll be something better on the market.
How much would you really use the 3-D capability, really?
5000 chops is lots of beer money. Priorities.

Sometimes the same is different, but mostly, it's the same.

Re: 3-D TV?

Yes you would have to wear the stupid glasses and I think 3-D movies suck anyway, as wave said thats a lot of beer and vodka you could better spend your money on.

Then again can you picture yourself with your pants around your ankles wearing those stupid glasses watching some porn waiting for her hand to reach out and touch you? ? And if the misses walks in? explain that one away! Dont Tell Anyone

Agree.

Comfortable.

Re: 3-D TV?

3D, for now, is just for impressing children or compensating for lame acting. If 3D is the only thing that separates these two models, I'd leave it and pick up some other gear instead.

Interesting that you're sticking with Sharp. My impression is that they used to be good, but haven't kept up.

I bought the airline

Re: 3-D TV?

You should buy a Haier brand and support the local Chinese. After all you are guest here and need show respect.

Re: 3-D TV?

I don't buy Chinese products because they are of poor quality.

I wouldn't buy a Chinese car or a Chinese motorcycle, why the hell would I buy a Chinese TV?

It has nothing to do with respect and everything to do with common sense.

Same respect as Chinese show to foreigners, such as special foreigner price and scams everywhere?
As for TV, I think there is no real 3D-TV but just marketing ads. Many people complain about pain in the eyes after such "3D" so personally I would care my eyesight first.

Re: 3-D TV?

3-D must have some side effects, maybe just for some people.
My eyes are f***ed up enough with computers and normal TV now.

There is nothing bad with Haier TV. I have one it it work beautifully! Maybe the problem is you are breaking it, ever think that way?

What is wrong you pay a little more since you can afford a little more? Beside, it is not scam. The foreigner come to China and expect to pay nothing, but even when you buy something it is still less than what you pay at home, so why complain?

Re: 3-D TV?

Someday a 3D tv will be worth having, by the time that happens they will probably be a lot cheaper.

If I happened to have the money to spare I would still be tempted though, some (mostly sh*t) games are already supporting it but don't expect anything exciting too soon....though Killzone3 will be fully 3D (needs ps3).

I don't know much about it really, but I think we are at least a year off it being a big deal.
And the glasses? f*** that.
You need to buy more for when friends come round? gay.
There are types that don't require glasses but might require you be directly in front of the tv.

Also, I haven't been seeing any 3d content on the torrents sites, and they sure as hell aren't in Beijing DVD shops.

Good point, 5000 would get you two ps3's for example.

Re: 3-D TV?

Don't get a 3D TV. They've invented new ones which don't need glasses which will be coming out soon. The next DS will be 3D and won't need them either.

I have a Bravia, its pretty good.

Re: 3-D TV?

But they already exist!

Weird, I googled and found an article from this month about how Toshiba has "just" developed glasses-free 3dtvs.

I saw 3D tvs that didn't require glasses in HK earlier this year.

Any good?

Re: 3-D TV?

I can not wear 3D glasses, because I have short eyesight. I like watching movies at home. And my TV is 42". It is still good enough for me. But I will buy a cheap projector, if I can find one. I think it is more enjoyable if I have a projector.

Comfortable.

Re: 3-D TV?

But it is not a practical idea to buy a projector for me. Because I do not want to re-equip my home.

Comfortable.

Re: 3-D TV?

3D sets work just fine with 2D signals (and you can skip the glasses). The panel itself is the same as any other LCD/LED paned (except for the high refresh rate requirement). The difference lies in the signal processing driving the image.

Systems without glasses exist and this is of course the final goal. It should be noted that there is currently not much standardization in the industry. For example when a 3D episode of a TV show airs, typically it's a question of "old school" green and red glasses instead of shutter glasses.

As with any TV, bigger is probably better. Compare the size of a movie theatre screen relative to viewing distance with the size of a television. A 42 inch screen should be viewed at 8-10 feet (some would say 6-7) or so to get somewhere close to a movie theatre experience. That's much closer than most people have their TVs.

Thanks alot.
