Things To Come 1936

Re: Old movies? You still like them? Yeah.

I was actually talking with a mate about this yesterday, how all Chinese people think movies from 15 years ago are 'old movies'.

They're not.

Herbie's are 'old movies'.

But yeah, anyway, Trainspotting is a modern classic. Americans, don't forget to put the subtitles on...

Re: Old movies? You still like them? Yeah.

Laughing subtitles....

Its amazing when the older films are looked at closely, they were made at a time when facsism and Nazism (hey what's the difference?) were raising their ugly heads in Europe and many cite them as warnings against a New World Order. If there was a time I would have liked to have been around, it would definitely be the US in the late 40's - september 1962.

The Day the Earth Stood Still 1951 - Theremin time!!!

Un Chien Andalou (1929)

Sorry to be pedantic, but Midnight Cowboy is not really an 'old movie' either.

Why is that?

It's a great movie, watched it a few weeks ago.

It's over 40 years old, that's plenty old enough.

Trainspotting is OLD?! sh*t, I feel like a dinosaur now. Perversely classic, yes. But OLD?

Re: Old movies? You still like them? Yeah.

To know me in daily life, you would never guess: Gone With the Wind.

Gone With the Wind is one of my favourites. I have its DVD at my home. And I like Clark Gable. He is one of my favourite actors.

Comfortable.

Re: Old movies? You still like them? Yeah.

I wouldn't consider anything after 1965 "old."

Yeterday I watched "Where Eagles Dare" (Clint Eastwood) and was surprised to find out it was made in 1968! It's held up great...

My favourites:

"Duck Soup" - Marx Brothers (actually, ANY Marx Bros. movie)

Abbott and Costello stuff

Early Tarzan movies

"Some Like it Hot" - r.i.p. Tony Curtis

"The Great Dictator" - Chaplin

"His Girl Friday" - Cary Grant

Errol Flynn movies

Hitchcock stuff...

Too many to mention.

I like it. Thank you, Herbie. And I like this line from this movie,
"I am fearful when I see people substituting fear for reason. "

Comfortable.

Re: Old movies? You still like them? Yeah.

Not quite a favorite, but I just saw "The Hustler" with Paul Newman and George C. Scott for the first time. Definitely worth a look!

Un Chien Andalou (1929) is great. But I dare not watch it at night, because I have not had a strong mind until now.

Re: Old movies? You still like them? Yeah.

@ alex the droog,

Thank you for recommending Un Chien Andalou (1929). I like it.

And I watched Land Without Bread (Las Hurdes: Tierra Sin Pan). It is valuable for me.

Re: Old movies? You still like them? Yeah.

They are running clips of some old movies on the subway ... amazing how the sight of a guy in a pink tutu from 1952 can really get the locals chuckling
