I am telling you, the simple reason why some Chinese don't like the black is because they are ignorant. They think being black is kind of ugly, while being white and asian are better. But nothing like what you said. I don't think many Chinese people know the fact that the black used to be slaves until Europeans and Americans took them to Europe and America. They are just being ignorant as ever and judge people by their looks.

You shouldn't think white are superior just on account of being white! You shouldn't assume the reason for which Chinese are not very friendly to the Black as well!! You obviously know nothing about Chinese!!!

For me the racism starts when you start dividing people into "white people" and "black people" when talking about them, as if they are some kind of group that we can make further generalisations about simply on account of their skin colour.

But then again one thing I've noticed from experience is that racial identity is much stronger among non-whites, who tend to universalise their identity - maybe a type of racism in and of itself.

Those are some realistic statistics but I highly doubt 100% would commit any number of those. You have some facts there so I can agree with you on some part. Yes, on the face of it black people may perform worse in exams and be convicted of more crimes, especially in America. But why? The segregation your government put them through created ghettos, mired in social problems, I'm sure I read somewhere that comparatively less money was spent on schools and social projects in these areas. Add this to the fact that black people have been shown to be more likely to be searched or arrested by a predominantly white police force (no requirement to be university educated as a policeman) and we may have a clearer picture of your statistics.

I spent two months in Ghana this summer and had conversations with CAB DRIVERS that would surpass the intellectual abilities of some people I go to university with. You're taking an issue of a minority failed by the system in countries that used to use this minority as slaves and presenting it as something this minority deserved because of the colour of their skin - that's racism.

I can understand the Chinese bias towards "white" Europeans/Americans because of the Chinese cultural bias of "pale/white" = rich or upper class.
It then follows that Chinese would discriminate against "dark/black" Africans and African Americans.

Where do the middle shades fit in the Chinese view? A female friend of mine visited from Thailand. She felt that she got a cold reception, especially from the Chinese women. I always wondered if it was her darker skin color or Chinese women see Thai women as rivals.

Serena, I thought Indian, Thais and Chinese have similar shades i.e Asian shades which is not mixed. I thought mixed shades are from white and black or are my eyes deceiving me?...BTW, Halle is a mixed shade... Beyonce is fully Black, the Thailand shade pnkearns was referring is completely Asian and not mixed.
