Changing from F to Z visa only possible in home country?
Hi,
I have been teaching German at a university for 2 months now, the agency was supposed to change my F visa into a Z, but it turns out they won't keep that promise because they're just a bunch of liars. The university (apparently) didn't know this and can't do anything about it.
I will quit soon, because I now have a new job offer with a company that will sponsor my Z visa. The question is - do I need to go back to Germany to get the Z visa or would it be possible to do that in HK, Macao, Korea, Japan? I heard that you need to go back home if you switch from F to Z.
Thanks!

If you or you company do it yourself, you must leave china first(mostly hong kong,or your home country) to apply a temporary Z vsia and enter China again to apply a nomal Z vsia (include a working permit and a residence permit),we can help you convert it to a temporary Z vsia without leaving china, save the money and time.

To apply your z visa in Beijing or Hk it depands on your company's capital if your company's capital is small you have to go to HK to apply your visa that's the best way .You don't need to go back your country. To apply Z visa the first thing you need is to apply the work permint. If you need more information you can contact me.My company name is Fortunecom we provides a full range of visa services.

Re: Changing from F to Z visa only possible in home country?
Well, my question was - do I HAVE to go back to my home country to get the F turned into a Z visa, or can I get this done in Hong Kong or somewhere else in Asia?
To all of you agents out there - I've had enough of all this illegal sh*t. Do your shady business with someone who cannot get a Z visa the legal way. Thanks

You can hold Z invitation letter to HK or any other Asian countries except China to apply for Z visa.
You can also change F to Z in Beijing through some agency's help.
Good luck

Re: Changing from F to Z visa only possible in home country?
Hey ilrs I just had mine done and in total it took about 2 and a half months and i didn't need to leave the country. However that's only because my company used an agent. The rule as it is in Chinese visa law is that you must return to your home country to do it. however this being China the scandalous relationship between the PSB and the visa agents means they somehow are the only ones who can help you do it without leaving the country. Trust me i checked with my company which is a very large international cooperation and this is the only way to do it without leaving. The only other alternative is to go to HK to get a work permit after you have gotten the employment license etc from the labour bureau which is a pain in itself and after you get back you have to then get the year long residence permit again another pain in the butt, this is not sanctioned by the law and so you could find yourself unable to do it once you get there its a grey area. The whole process is so long winded and convoluted it generally helps to have the agent do it really. If you lucky like me the company bears the majority of the expense so for me it was def cheaper to just do it that way than going to HK or back home.

Re: Changing from F to Z visa only possible in home country?
I recently got my residency, two months ago.
I happened to go to the Beijing PSB in the process of extending my F visa. When I told the PSB agent how much of a hassle it was to go back to the US to apply for a z-visa, she said in surprise "You can get a z-visa here!", and handed me an application with a list of documents to have. I and my chinese companion asked again and again to make sure we heard right, but the agent was adamant that I didn't have to leave Beijing to get a z-visa.
However, the paperwork required was a bit more than what I would have needed if I went back to my home country. I don't remember everything, but the business license of my sponsoring company was one of the items.
To visit my family, I actually ended up returning to the US to get the z-visa, but I seriously considered this option.
We all know how protocol often changes in China, but it may be worth your while to go to the PSB and chat with an agent.
