Taking a Turtle to Thailand

Hi all,
I'm hoping someone might be able to help with a tricky problem. After four years of living and working in China, my wife and I are moving to Thailand, and we want to take out pet turtle with us.
"Charlie" is a red-eared slider turtle and has been our pet for more than three years, so we are keen not to lose him. Does anyone know if it is possible/feasible/practical to take him with us to Thailand. And if so, how would we go about it?
Any advice would be welcomed as we now have only a few months to sort this out.
On a related point, if it becomes clear that it's impossible to take Charlie with us, we will be looking for a new home for him here in Beijing. So if you think can provide one of those, please also get in touch.
Charlie is about 4 or 5 years old and (coincidentally) 4-5 inches long. We are 95% sure he is a male, but can't promise you that!
If he ends up staying with a family here in Beijing, I would also be more than happy to provide his new owners with plenty of food for him as well as passing on the tank he currently calls home.
If we are unable to sort either of the above, could anyone recommend a place that would be suitable for Charlie's release into the wild? I really don't want him to die of neglect (or end up in someone's lunch) if we are forced to leave him behind.
Thanks for reading this lengthy post and I hope to hear from you soon.
Andy

Re: Taking a Turtle to Thailand

It is pretty complex, you cant take animals on a plane. You 'd better give him to a Chinese friend

Re: Taking a Turtle to Thailand

Hi Andy - if you need to find a new home for your pet you can place a free ad in the classifieds section of theBeijinger.com. As the above poster says, it's pretty difficult to take an animal on a plane. You could always travel to Thailand overland... though that would take while.

Register and post your own events on the beijinger website.

Re: Taking a Turtle to Thailand

Thanks wowowo,
that seems to be the most likely outcome.
I had to check though.
Cheers

Cheers Dan,
It's looking like that's what I'll end up having to do.
Thanks for taking the time to reply, and look out for the ad coming soon. (I have to exhaust absolutely all possibilities first!)
Thanks again,
Andy

Re: Taking a Turtle to Thailand

Hello Andy..

It seems that you can't live without your pet turtle...That's your affection...I will suggest you to talk to the higher authorities there, they will surely help you in this matter...May be they allow you to take your turtle with you to Thailand...So try your luck..

At Bangkok you are going to get the pet taken by veterinarian services of Thai custom.
Sure. Nothing in or out from there.
Good luck if you try.
