Which visa best for a) spouse of Chinese citizen seeking long-term China base and b) child of Chinese citizen?

Hi,

I am a Canadian (UK dual) citizen lived on and off in China 04-07 on at times a Z and multi-entry F visa.

I am married to a Chinese citizen with a baby born in Canada in 2010. We are planning on basing ourselves out of China for most of 2011-2012.

My questions are:
1. What visa should I get if I want to be able to come/go from China but not be forced to leave every 30 days? Can you still get a 6 or 12-month F without the 30 day duration limit or should I go for a 12-month L as a spouse (we plan to stay in Beijing but her hukou is not Beijing).
2. What's with the baby. Born in Canada but to a Chinese mother he'll land in China with a Canadian passport but surely can get some sort of status change on arrival right?

Any help with these two questions would be amazing!

Hi Michael，
You can your son can apply family L visa.It's ok your wife's hukou is not Beijing.

Ask the Chinese embassy in Canada,you can also apply in Canada.

you can apply for a spouse visa in chinese emabssy in canada .and when you come to china ,you can extend it easily .

Hi, Micheal:

If your baby was born in Canada, I think there will not be Chinese hukou for the baby, but if you want to confirm this quesiton, you can call the PSB office in beijing---010-84020101.

And for you and your baby, you can apply for a spouse visa. your wife need to get a temporary residence permit in beijing as her hukou is not in beijing.

with your passports , the baby's birth certificate and your wife's permit, you can get a visa in PSB
