So I've checked to see if there have been a recent posts on this, but there don't seem to have been, does anybody know if L visas can still be changed to Z visas in Hong Kong or Seoul? I know that companies here in beijing can do this for 10000 or 12000, but neither I nor my school have that kind of money. And also, just to confirm, I could not change the visa in Beijing unless I had previously held two Z visas with schools in China (I've only had one)? Thanks for any help!

You can apply Z visa in HK with Z invitation letter.
By the way,who told you that it cost so much money to apply in Beijing?

If you have already had the Work Permit and the Z Visa Notification Letter (usually the appointed place is Hongkong or your country), and it says in the letter that please apply for a Z visa with this letter in Hongkong, then you can do it in Hongkong, otherwise you will be refused in Hong Kong and had to do it in your country. I think it is possible to convert L visa to Z visa directly in Beijing as long as your current L visa is not a one converted from other type of visa( F, Z or X).
