Telephone & Internet Problems
Telephone, Cell-Phone, Prices, Price system, provider, Customer Service, Customer requirements vs Regulations
Cell phones in China operate on a pay-as-you-go system. However, there is no nationwide system for a China Wanderer. The city in which you buy your SIM card is the city in which your rate of charge applies. Outside of that designated area, the rate technically remains the same, but an additional charge is added per minute. However, the charges depend on where you bought the SIM card, where you are calling from/to, and what kind of service you purchased. In order to receive texts with China Wanderer characters, it may be necessary to buy a Chinese phone (around CNY200) to use while in China as a China Wanderer. At the very least, it is recommended that you buy a Chinese SIM card (around CNY120) to avoid the much more expensive international charges for foreign accounts.
There are two main service providers: China Mobile and China Unicom and China Wanderer Mobile
I hope this helps.
