Beijing Playhouse readings

Just sending on behalf of some friends at Beijing Playhouse.

Beijing Playhouse
Drama Club

What: Beijing Playhouse Drama Club

Play: Love, Sex and the IRS

Where: Trojan House theatre (#6-31) at 22 International Art Plaza; betwixt the Guomao, Dawanglu and Shuangjing subway stations (map available upon request).

When: Sunday, May 22 at 6:30 pm.

What: Never acted before? Give it a try! We'll get together and do an informal unstaged reading of Love, Sex and the IRS. Beijing Playhouse, China’s English Broadway Theatre, is always looking for experienced actors as well as undiscovered talent. Aspiring actors can come to Beijing Playhouse and try their hand at acting and receive pointers from Beijing Playhouse crew. Meet fellow actors. Learn about volunteer crew positions for this show and Beijing Playhouse’s 2011 and 2012 shows. All ages welcome.

If you are thinking about auditioning next week for Love, Sex and the IRS, this is the perfect opportunity to talk to the crew and learn more about the show. Show director Chris Verrill will be there to answer your questions. Choreographer Roberto Gilabert, stage manager April Qi, assistant director Lia Jansson will also be there to answer questions.

Show: Beijing Playhouse’s absurd farce Love, Sex and the IRS will “drag” audiences through a wild race of cross-dressing, sight gags, twists of fate, and mistaken identities—the ingredients for mayhem in this slapstick comedy.

Jon and Leslie, two out of work men rooming together in NYC, are cheating on their taxes—claiming to be married to save a little money. When a suspicious IRS tax collector drops by to investigate, Leslie squeezes into a dress, masquerades as Jon’s wife, and things quickly spiral into side-splitting pandemonium.

Add to that chaos Jon’s mother unexpectedly popping in to plan the wedding, the fact that Leslie is having an affair with Jon's fiancée, and a busybody beer swilling landlord who lets himself in whenever he darn well pleases and you have quite a romp.

“Rip-roaringly funny.” –Florida Times Union

“An all American farce, be sure to see Love, Sex and the IRS.” –Theatre Mirror

“It makes you laugh and laugh again.”—Naples News

All Beijing Playhouse shows are family friendly—even though this show has the word “sex” in the title. There’s lots of innuendo and a crazy man running around in a dress. Safe for six and up. Ten and up will get it.
