where to look for a teacher
Hi !
I'm just arrived in Beijing and I'm looking for a private professor who can give me lessons in classical chinese. I studied Putonghua and I can understand it, so knowledge of English is not necessary.
Do you happen to know where I can post some ads?
Do you know someone who can teach this kind of subject?
Thank you!

Hi there,
I think the best way to learn Chinese is the same with we Chinese learn English, that is practice as much as possible. So you can make friends with Chinese people, they are very nice and friendly to help you. Speak more with them, you can learn more quickly and effectively.
If you would like, you can email me on cincin81@126.com
Sincerely,

Quista_ete_laura,
Classic Chinese? not even many Chinese people know about Classic Chinese these days. Wow, good for you.
I highly suggest you go to Pekin University, Beijing normal University, Even Qinghua university, in one word, go to one of these key liberal arts universities, because the language programs there are CHEAP and ACADEMIC.
Don't go to those language centres like TAILOR MADE CHINA CENTER, I can assure you people there have no idea what CLASSIC Chinese is.
Don't accept private tutors, for the same reason, the vast majority of Chinese have no idea what classic Chinese is. If you insist, find one from those key universities, preferably pekin university or beijing normal university.
TailorMade Chin...
Re: where to look for a teacher
Dear,
Sereneselchie is right, TailorMade Chinese Center isn't specialized in "Classic Chinese" but in "Modern Chinese".
95% of our students come in China to work in International or Chinese companies and need Chinese in their daily life to communicate with their colleagues or to handle daily tasks.
So we considered that "Classic Chinese" for them is useless and that's why we decided to made our own methodology focusing on Oral Chinese.
Thanks to our standard and our methodology, you will learn Chinese efficiently and get concrete results right from the start.
Of course, as TailorMade means, we also designed some specific classes to introduce Chinese Characters, but also to teach you Chinese in specific domains as Business, Law, Architecture, Events organization, etc...
So I agree with you. At Peking University, BLCU or any others universities, you will learn Chinese for cheap and with academic way. You will be around 20 students in the class, you will learn Chinese characters, stories, history, song, games, etc...
At TailorMade Chinese Center, you will just learn how to communicate in Chinese. You can then choose to add any module to learn anything else that we can tailor especially for you.
If you want to have a free trial to make your mind up or for any others information, please contact me at jf.pouliquen@tailormadecc.net, 13910437734.
Yours Sincerely
Jeff

Re: where to look for a teacher
If you are looking for a private teacher you should make use of 豆瓣, 百度贴吧,or a similar Chinese site to place an add.
However, I agree with the other opinions that you are best off going to 北大, 人大, 北师大, or some other university to find instruction. Even if you don´t want to enroll in the university, you could likely find someone there who is qualified to teach classical Chinese.
You should really identify and contact experienced China hands individuality to get good advice: on forums like these you may get a gem every now and then, but you have to wade through lots of crap too. Look up people like David Moser, Eric Abrahamsen, or look up the people who translated classical Chinese texts and ask them their advice as to the best method to learn classical Chinese.

Re: where to look for a teacher
Guys,
Maybe, somebody can advise a good tutor?
I need a kind of intensive course for 1 month (18 Feb-18 march).
I don't really much trust the numerous ads here as I've posted an ad in Chinese but received not many answers really worth paying attantion at. And most of them are in English, though it is clear I can understand Chinese!
And I am also confused about prices... Have not been in China for 3 years, and don't know what is a typical REAL price for good tutor.
Would be great to hear about your personal experiance.
Cheers,
Irina
