Want to Learn Mandarin

I've been looking at teaching jobs in Beijing, mainly because I want to learn Standard Mandarin. And I am one who prefers to live in an "urban" setting. Are there other possibilities I'm missing because of my focus on Beijing?...for example, X'ian, Chengdu, etc. I want to learn to speak/understand Mandarin Chinese, as well as find the right opportunity to teach English, but maybe I'm limiting myself with a Beijin-exclusive focus. Does anyone know other places I should be looking at, where I would still have the opportunity of immersion into Mandarin?? And yes, I know about Harbin, (and I want to go there during their Ice Festival), but I'm wondering about somewhere warmer possibly.

Re: Want to Learn Mandarin

hi guys.

My name is Ng. I am a chinese from Malaysia.

I have been learning Chinese and Malay since i was in kindergarden. Besides that, Chinese has lots of dialects. I am from Penang, Malaysia, I am able to speak Hokkien, Teow Chiew, and Gong Dong(common language in Hong Kong)

Anyway, I am looking for friends who can speak English which could improve my speaking ability, at meanwhile, what i can provide to you all is free of charge chinese or perhaps malay learning lessons.

Please dont hesitate to drop me a mail if anyone who is interested in.

I can tell you that Chinese language is consist of tens of localism.

The Mandarin is the most similar to Pekingese. So people who grow up in Beijing are the best Mandarin users, especially the young generation(80's & 90's). Smile

Dear Sammy,

I want to vomit when I hear Beijing people speak Mandarin.

Can't you hear the huge difference between the Mandarin on CCTV and Pekingese that comes out from a local Beijinger's mouth?

Mandarin is a beautiful language, don't abuse it.
