Warhammer Fantasy
Hey all,
So at Wanfujing Bookstore this weekend they had a sale on their new Games Workshop stuff, so the lady and I picked up the starter for Warhammer Fantasy. We've assembled everything, and are now looking to start learning the rules. Do any other English speakers on here play WHFB or want to start learning and maybe want to arrange a game sometime?
I also like to play Warmachine/Hordes.

Re: Warhammer Fantasy
I just moved to the city and am looking for the games workshop crowd here as well. I play 40k, not fantasy, so I don't have any models for it, but I'm always happy to learn a new game. Any idea where the wargamers congregate here?

Re: Warhammer Fantasy
I've heard there is a place called Maelstrom games near the Drum and Bell towers at 39 GuLou DaJie. I haven't been there yet, but its supposed to be the best from the forum posts I've seen. My lady and I have been learning WHFB at home from the starter box, but I'd be happy to meet up sometime to learn more or something.
I played Warmachine/Hordes back home, but can't find anyone to play here.

Re: Warhammer Fantasy
According to the person who now has maelstrom's phone number, they've been closed 2 years now. I did find the Warhammer Club yesterday, and while small, there is a nice guy working there and a table to play at. It's mostly a 40k joint, but they sell a lot of Fantasy as well. The number is (010)64037588 open 1:30-8:00 tues-fri 10:00-7:00 weekends. I'd be happy to meet up and play some weekend if you're down for it. Like I said, I don't have any fantasy minis (my 40k stuff is waiting for my residence card before it arrives...) but I'm always happy to learn a new game and hang out. Might even convince the wife to play one day... one can dream.

Re: Warhammer Fantasy
If you want to check out Fantasy, I think I can make it in maybe 2 weeks (weekend of the 28th?) with my Island of Blood starter. I'm seriously still learning everything by the book, so I'm not comfortable teaching it. Do you have access to the 8th ed rulebook? I downloaded it, since the Island of Blood I got came with Chinese rules and my Chinese literacy amounts to 5-10 characters.
I'd also be more than happy to teach you Warmachine/Hordes if you're interested, but I don't have enough models to play, so we'd have to proxy one side of a fight.

Re: Warhammer Fantasy
Sure, I should be free that weekend at some point. I'll send you a PM with my number.
Either game would be fun to learn, but with Games Workshop's recent crazy price increases I'd be really interested in seeing what Warmachine is all about.

Re: Warhammer Fantasy
There is a decent Chinese Warhammer Club in between Dongsishitiao Subway station (line 2) and Zhangzizhong station (line 5), but it is a bit hard to find. As I live very close by though, I can help you find it if you like to check it out some day.
It is an all Chinese club and only open on the weekends. But it at least has been functional for quite some time now (stumbled across it in 2009 I think). And personally I was glad I entered the Chinese gaming scene (wargames though, not tabletops) because if you limit yourself to only foreigners ... you can get by, but miss out on a lot potential opponents.
I saw you posted quite a lot of threads about boardgames recently ... did you ever try www.boardgamegeek.com? Probably the best site for board games in general and they DO have a China subforum too.
Divorce, clone a female gamer, remarry.
How some people always miss the obvious.

Re: Warhammer Fantasy
Hey Guys...
I recommend you all go to The Warhammer Club Beijing as dehantp said... "There is a decent Chinese Warhammer Club in between Dongsishitiao Subway station (line 2) and Zhangzizhong station (line 5), but it is a bit hard to find."... It is hard to find, (its in a basement), but its a cool place. (to be honest I'm not sure about other places).
For the Warhammer Club: Zhangzizhonglu station, go east then right at the lights, Dongsishitiao station, go west then left at the lights, or you could ask any Taxi Driver for Chao Nei Bei Xiao Jie then give the shop a call and they'll giude you there. Shop number is: 64037588

Re: Warhammer Fantasy
Is that club really still around though? Rumour has it already closed again? When did you go there the last time Push28?

Re: Warhammer Fantasy
Haha, well considering that I'm the owner of the club I can guarantee you it’s still open, alive and kicking! (Open Tuesdays - Sundays)
Everyone's more than welcome to stop by for a game, a chat, a drink, a painting session or anything, it'd be cool to see you. If you have time, come hang out.
