"International" healthcare in China will always be more expensive than its local counterparts. And while international healthcare providers often have a higher standard of care, safety, and service, this is not always the case. There are many fine local dental clinics in Beijing that offer service that is just as good, if not better, than BJU or SOS' dental offerings, and for a far cheaper price.

However, if for whatever reason you don't want to try a local clinic and want better price options than other international ones, I can recommend IDC Dental. Excellent clinic, very good dentists and they have different "tiers" of pricing depending on which dentist you choose.

If you're just going for a cleaning for example, it's 380 RMB for a senior dentist, and 280 for a junior dentist. That's almost half the price as BJU or SOS for the same level of service and quality. I believe you can also see a western-trained specialist for around 500 RMB for a cleaning, which is similar to BJU or SOS but still on the cheaper side.

I saw Dr. Wu (senior dentist) for a cleaning and check-up a few months ago and was very pleased with the value. Just as good as BJU.

I dunno, Nidaye, I can understand Frank cause I'm not super confident in my Chinese and when it comes to health-related things I just want to go somewhere I feel really confident and IDC did that. They also had great service. Maybe I'm just super Americanized or something but I don't think I'd ever feel great going to a local place. It depends on your Chinese skill, I went to a local dentist, had very clean office and equipment, they spoke no English, but with that said any dentist can say some English words I am sure, like open your mouth, close your mouth, rinse, spit, etc.
I got a very good cleaning, x-rays, and examination for under 300rmb. You have to be able to get past the language thing but as the guy above said dentists here are pretty good if not better than many in other western countries.

I have also heard from many Chinese that they go to hospitals when they need to see a dentist and they swear by it, saying the best dentists work in the hospitals. I am still more comfortable going to a dentist office, I feel it is the other way around.

Anyway, if it is just a cleaning and x-rays I would go to any dentist, English or not, they will do a good job. If things get more complicated then maybe you will need someone who speaks English.

Their English seemed ok on the phone but I can't comment yet on their fees except to say that the consultation fee seems very reasonable.

Have literally just finished at IDC Dental (the anaesthetic is still wearing off) and wanted to give a big recommend to them. Not sure if they are the cheapest but I really freak out about going to see dentists and they made me feel as relaxed as I could be. I have to go back 4 more times as I had a big abscess and need to have a root canal done followed by a crown. Can't say I'm looking forward to going back but I'm certainly not worried about and that is the biggest recommend I can give any dentist!

Dr Wu made me the most comfortable I have been at any dentist in years. My wife and mother-in-law have been to Chinese dental hospitals in recent years and have been happy with the work but I'm just not brave enough to go!

which local dentist did you end up going to? I speak Chinese so language is not a problem. But I do have a set of bad teeth and probably need a several root canals. I would like to keep as much natural teeth structure as possible. Please let me know.

Had a one of my back fangs out here, no problem with pain after... very clean and inexpensive although you'll need Chinese to talk to them.
