I think Nanjing and Shanghai are very romantic. Beijing just does not live up to their stature.

A romantic city is one where you can take a stroll down lanes and not end up sloshing though pools of cooking oil and discarded chopsticks.

shenzhen is the worst city

Shenzhen? I just spent a night there. Romance is in the eye of the beholder I guess.

We book hotels based solely on swimming pools because my kids love to swim. The biggest, over the top one was at the Crowne Plaza across from the Window of the World park.

Shenzhen is kitsch overload times a billion. The hotel had a fake gondolier in a "canal" filled with giant koi. The staff had on cheesy fake straw boaters and striped t-shirts, lobby full of fake stars in a faux painted sky.

Across the street was the Eiffel tower overlooking a pyramid and a Swiss Chalet. A monorail zipped you around all these stunning attractions. It was fun for a day and of course kids couldn't get enough.
Personally, I was glad to get on to Hong Kong for the romantic part of our trip.

Starting with how they lock the bathrooms when you cross the borders because HK isn't really down with the idea of raw sewage just being dumped out randomly!

hongkong is not romantic, nowhere is romantic beside the cold european countryside with alot of trees and house well snow too, my gosh, gonna to be excellent on christmas

Europe can indeed be romantic. So is Hong Kong. I love the harbor, the clean streets and people. It's great to walk there. I don't walk as much here because of the pollution. Great little romantic spots to have dinner.

Of course different people have different tastes, but you can't deny all the romantic movies shot in New York.

Skating in Rockefeller center at Christmastime? Top of the Empire State building? Anyone?
Oh, but I guess you can do all those things in miniature if you just go to Shenzhen!

New York City is the most romantic, beautiful wonderful city on earth. My heart lives and dies in New York City. There is no place on earth I would rather be at any time on any day than the Capital of the World, and I am not a native New Yorker. I am just one of those transplants that appreciates what the other side has.

So how come you don't live there? Too expensive?

I was lured away from there 11 years ago and now I am married to the family in China. The plans are well under way to relocate there in the near future. The house is ready but I haven't settled on a form of employment yet. I have a place to live, now I need a way to feed myself once I get there.

I've never been there myself, but certainly intend to before I check out for good. Seems like a cauldron of energy. Much like London was in decades gone by I guess.

yup, Beijing could be considered romantic in about the same way sh*t could be thought to have a pleasant aroma.
