Internet speed
Just moved into a new apartment. Horribly slow internet speed. 2mbps is atrocious compared to what I'm used to. Especially because the download speed is usually at 40kb/s... Sometimes at 300kb/s, which is acceptable.
I've been doing some research, and I've found out that the normal speed is either 2mbps or 4mbps. But I've also read somewhere that Unicom offers 8mbps. Is this true? And is it available here in Beijing?
I know it's more expensive, but I'll manage.

Re: Internet speed
8Mbps is available here but it depends on the area/building you live in. A while back I was looking to upgrade to 4Mpbs as it is not that much more, but the clerk at China Unicom told me I should stick with 2Mbps as there wouldn't be much difference.

Re: Internet speed
I heard that the 8Mbps is not so stable. You better stick to 2/4Mbps

Re: Internet speed
It is true that Unicom provides 8mbps speed but it depends on area and your PC configuration. I think you should get these information from your connection provider because this is easy and best way.

Re: Internet speed
I have heard that in terms of accessing sites hosted outside of China, you could have 10000000mbps and it still wouldn't make any difference because the bandwidth is so throttled.
