Where can we buy alcohol drinks?

Hi there. We are living in Beijing since last week and we have not seen european typical alcohol drinks in the average supermarkets. We are form Spain and we use to prepare cocktails on weekends before clubbing, but we can find more than Bacardi rum, Habana Club Rum or Baileys. Where can we buy alcohol drinks?. I dont want to suffer Baiju or Mijiu hang overs.

carefour carries a small selection of liquors but the best places in this case are Jenny Lou ( many branches in town), April Gourmet ( also many places), Heaven Supermarket ( side of Yashaw)

Hi Badr, do you where I can buy a bottle of martini rosso? Can I find it at April Guourmet?.... It's kinda urgent as it's the gift for my friend's 30th birthday coming up next week. She loves martini rosso. Thanks.

I think the airport has some before the duty free.

Good idea. I can also give that a try. I fly from Shanghai to Beijing this Friday. Not sure if any duty free liquor shops I can find though, since it's a demostic flight.

Don't blame me if there isn't any.
I bought some for friends before flying.
They definitely had a more international selection in the mall just as you enter the airport.

No problem. I can always try the supermarket behind Yashow, or Jenny Lou. Do you know any Jenny Lou near Gongti? I literally stay inside of Gongti everytime I am in town...

I was lying on my back. A quick studio shot. No way I could twist my neck and arm like that if I was lying on my front - I just tried for a second...didn't work that well. ha.

a a... there is a place near me that has Martini, but I don't know if they have the rosso variety. I will check tomorrow for yo!
Do you know Destination? This is a bar for gays (ie not me), but if you head west from here there are a couple of shops selling lots of booze: Napoleon brandy (80RMB), small bottles of Johnny Walker Red (40RMB), Perrier (to go with whisky!), cranberry juice and Courvoisier (for cosmopolitans), etc etc.

You are so sweet. It'd be great if you could do a quick check if it doesn't cause you too much trouble.
I've been to Destination a couple of times with my gay friends. Didn't pay attentioin to any booze shops there yet... yeah guess i can try my luck, too.

They have Martini Rosso at those shops near Destination. The first shop wants 98 rmb, the second one 90 rmb so I guess you can bargain a little bit...

I bought a Martini Rosso once I can't remember where it turned out to be fake............ I also bought Limoncello once at Jenny Lou's it turned out to be fake also......
Very difficult to choose a good liquor seller in Beijing..... you never know which ones are fake and which are not.....
@Spanish matador, if you're looking for special European drinks, I can get you Sambuca, or crema di limone...... etc if you like, I also do have Spanish wines if you like.......

I've heard that more than 60% of the alcohol at jenny Lou's and April Gourmet are fake..........
3 weeks ago a friend of mine told me that she bought a French wine at Jenny Lou's @ 30 kuai....... I told her that a French wine @ 30 kuai, I wouldn't even touch it.......... God knows what's inside....... hehe

I don't mind slagging off Jenny Lou but I think it's ridiculous to suggest that most of the alcohol there is fake. I mean... people would notice!
Fake alcohol can be put into cocktails in student bars without people noticing or cheap beer made to look like more expensive, imported beer in KTV bars with mostly Chinese customers but you couldn't possibly sell fake red wine to foreigners without them catching on.

The problem is that sometimes they don't even know that the stuff they're buying is a fake one......
a supplier might come out with fake importing documents and sell them the alcohol, they don't have someone who tastes every bottle they purchase.....

I think CZ's point is that most foreigners can tell the difference, even if the JL staff can't.
I think it would be widespread knowledge that their booze was fake if it was true.

can't tell if it's real or fake - i'm not gonna drink it anyway but my girl friend will. ha. anyways. lots of thanks!

You're welcome! That shop is a good place to pick up lemon juice, which is good for making cosmos. I used to make blackcurrent cosmos with juice from Pacific New Century Plaza but unfortunately that place has closed!
On the corner of that road is a place you can get Galliano for Harvey Wallbangers!

awesome. you sound like a part-time professional bartendar to me. i myself can make a few good cocktails. just need to get more recipes or be more creative, so i can impress people more. ha.

ha. thanks! so far i make kick-ass lychee martini, dirty martini, etc. i was trained by a very senior bartendar in Shanghai. i've been told i am talented and have lots of potentical, 'cuz i put my heart in every drink i make.

Exactly, JL does not sell fake booze, I have bought a lot of it there and have never came across anything fake. I won't buy mixed drinks in bars in Beijing for that very reason, when mixed who knows what you are drinking but I think you are pretty safe when buying booze at JL. I wil not bet my life on it of course, I mean, this is China, but go ahead and buy your booze there, if you end up with something fake from them I would just rack it up as bad luck and will likely not happen again.
