I realize alot of beijing bars/clubs have a bunch of uncivilized as hole patrons and very aggresive/unprofessional security. What are places one should avoid. cause i feel its better not to learn the hard way. I think this post is a good public service announcement to most of the expat community and others seeking a good time(that doesnt involve gang fighting)

Latte and school, definitely.
Chocolate have a very bad reputation (very violent bouncers, drunk russian mafiosi and bloated bills).
Propaganda is not a don't go, more of a "don't drink -fake-alcohol there".
Hatsune have a bad reputation for food poisoning (heard a dozen laowais complaining about it including an Italien who nearly died).

i think latte should be on either the MUST BE DRUNK TO GO THERE list. or on the MUST GO ONCE IN YOUR LIFE list. i've been once and i loved it, but i wouldn't go again.

Propaganda - not sure if they still do but in winter they used to pile coats at the top of a tiny staircase leading down to the dancefloor area. Lethal!

Definitely pre-game before hitting up propogations( propoganda + sensations). Killing your liver on all the fake alcohol they serve isn't worth it.

AVOID - the row of bars on the east side of Sanlitun village. Very dodgy, only hear bad things from that area.
Also - what's up with the influx of African guys lurking around bar street offering people drugs? Even occurs in broad daylight.. brings the area down in my opinion.

wow, really thank all of you who have given good advice here. I have not been to Beijing in 2 years, the last time i went i was told by a lady to go to a bar at houhai (the bar that i was drinking in sanlitun is about to close at 2am+) and i went back hotel that night with a rmb3000 bill and a great shock. Thats a big lesson i learnt last time i was there. By the way, hoping to grab a few drinks with some of you here when im there. Cheers.
