Beijing or Liaoning

Hi everyone,

I am wondering if anyone can give me some advice on whether or not working in Beijing would be a better option for me.
I know there will be a lot of different answers coming and my question can of course not be answered easily but I would be very interested to hear all your opinions.

I am currently working in the Liaoning Province in the Tourism Indutry and have to admit that I am a little bit disappointed. The company I am working for has branches all over the world, however its origin is in China. When coming here I felt that the level of professionalism is much lower than expected and especially the low level of English in this area makes work very difficult.

I might have an opportunity to move to Beijing but was wondering if it might be the same as here. The company in Beijing is an American company and has already several foreigners employed, which makes me think that it might be easier and also working would be more of the western style.
But how is it with the English level in Beijing. I don't expect perfect English at all as my English is far from perfect but calling companies work related and having people regularly hanging up the phone because there is no English available at all, can be frustrating.

So would you suggest to simply wait and stay here or try my chances in Beijing?

Looking forward to some replies!

Regards
Cornelius

Re: Beijing or Liaoning

Personally, I would never choose Beijing over the opportunity to be in Liaoning Province. I have lived in Shenyang and Fushun and found people there more genuine than the people in Beijing. My wife gets a bit irritated at me when I am upset with the area in which we now reside and I suggest to her we take a trip to the Northeast. Different strokes I guess.

yes it's true the people in Liaoning are very nice and I have no problem at all with getting along with anyone. However I ammmore questioning if working for a foreigner would be easier in Beijing than here, as the English level in Beijing might be higher.

Thanks a lot for your input!

Many regards
Cornelius

Generally speaking I would say that things would be better for you in Beijing, however you didn't mention where in Liaoning you are. Have you considered Dalian?
