Disney World--worth it?

Leaving tomorrow with the whole family for a month in the US.

I've given in to a well-organized and executed arm-twisting campaign to go to Disney World while we're there, so I went on their website today.

How much do you think it will cost for 3-day passes for the four of us?

$200?
$500?

Try over $1000!

All I can say is for that much, they better have college interns in Minnie Mouse costumes giving handies while I wait for the kids to finish Mr. Toad's Wild Ride.

The shitty economy seems to have affected the cost of lodging in the area. I checked that out and there are hundreds of big luxury condos and villas for like $75 a night, I guess they're just all sitting empty now.

I was pretty happy about that til I saw the Disney ticket prices....I gotta see if I can find some caper that gets me a better deal.

Re: Disney World--worth it?

Hang on, that's without at least a night's hotel?.... yikes, expensive!!!!

Re: Disney World--worth it?

Yeah, that's just to get into the park. About $80-$90 a day per person.

Look forward to working with you.

Re: Disney World--worth it?

Hey MK, you wouldn't mind telling us which flight you're on, would you?

Re: Disney World--worth it?

Monkey Monkey Monkey... yep, plenty of vacation weekly condos next to Disney World in Orlando. There are dozens of one/two bedroom condos on SkyAuction.com going in the $400 - $500 range. Next time look at the auction and buy it now options. There's also Resort Vacation Certificates (resortcerts.com) that run Westin hotels/timeshares condos at around $500 per week.

As for the $80+ entry fee per day to see Mickey the Rat, get over it. The entry fees are cheap to keep the family peace. Milk it with the Mrs. and kids.

yeah, the sounds about right if your buying a multiple day pass. I have never been to Disney World but I have been to Disneyland in LA and it was $100 per ticket but that bought you two theme parks. Believe it or not it is a pretty good deal. yeah it is expensive in today's economy but you will have a great time. I do not know how old your kids are, you said the whole family and I am also assuming you have never been? I loved it as a kid and I hate to say it but I think I had an even better time in my 30's when I went there two years ago. As for the hotel you can always get a cheap hotel near Disneyland and Disney World, the areas are saturated with hotels so if you are not going during peak tourist season you should always be able to get a nice hotel with buffet breakfast, pool, hot tub, etc for under $100 a night.

I am jealous, hope you do it, have fun!

Re: Disney World--worth it?

I am also jealous.

By the way, I thought chaofan was in his 20's, before I saw this thread.

Comfortable.

Have a good sleep, male.

Big Grin

If can do one thing, would be great.

Re: Disney World--worth it?

I assume you're going to the one in California... and not the original in Florida. I've never been to any other, but the one in Florida. And Orlando is definitely worth the visit. Very cool city.

Anyways... hope you have a good time there.

The one in California opened in 1955. Florida's Disney World didn't open until 1971.

Re: Disney World--worth it?

The Orlando one can actually be fun, it does depend on when you are going though...lines can be a pain. But they do have a ticket system now that makes it easier, goes something like this: go to a ride, pick up a ticket at the machine and return at the time it says, then your wait will be 10-15 minutes instead of 1 hour+. I'm assuming you are going there since you said Disney World and not Disney Land(the California one).

Lastly, Orlando is a shithole, there is nothing interesting or unique about it. Unless you plan bringing your children for boozing and hookers, I would avoid Orlando at all costs and just stick around the Disney-themed things.

Re: Disney World--worth it?

oh one more thing - check out Universal Studios if you get the chance...its a bit more fun for adults.

Don't do it, MK, think about how humiliating it'll be to get cuffed on arrival in Orlando, right in front your own family.

Mickey and Goofy will be pointing and laughing at you too.

Hyuk hyuk hyuk!!!

Check out "Twister" it's amazing. They create an an artificial tornado that you watch tear up a mock mid-western town. All indoors, but you'd barely know it.

Also, half that park *is* for kids. Really hardcore roller-coasters and faster paced insano rides you won't get at Disney.

My daughter loved it, but a full 12 hours of that business in one day was quite enough for me. Sick

Surprise Surprise Surprise

wow... you're right. All this time I thought the Florida one was the original. The www is a beautiful thing !!

Anyways... I would bet the Florida one is better anyways... and as mentioned, you have Universal Studios with City Walk & Church Street & all that... which definitely makes it worth it, as an adult. Orlando is loaded with things to do.

Plus, Florida is alot cheaper, overall.

But wherever you are... have a good time Wink

Nice tips, pnk, thanks a lot.

And believe me, I will be milking the sh*t out of it.

Also solid advice, thanks.

I discovered there are several HUGE websites all devoted to Disneyland/World trips. One even ranked the weeks in order of appeal in terms of crowds, events, prices, etc. The week we're planning to go? #52 Sad

I don't care, we'll have a blast. I'm actually starting to get excited myself.

Otto, get help. The first place you think of for a vacation after Disneyland is the Sudan? There's no middle ground for you? Sheeeeit. Stay the feck out of ottoworld, I guess, where "when his son asketh of a father bread, he giveth him a hand-grenade, yea unto having drawn forth the pin and having letteth fly the lever."
