3 month visitor visa?

Hi,

I am getting some contradictory info. I have read the forums here and the opinion seems to be that a tourist visa is for one month. It can be extended two times for a total of 3 months. However, I went to the local police station and they told me there are also visas for 3 and 6 months. Is this true?

I am an American, now on a Z visa.

Additional questions: What do I need to get the visitor visa? I understand I need photos, passport, and certificate showing I have about 20k in the bank. Do I need a return air ticket or some such? Where do I get the tourist visa? Do I have to leave China to get it?

Thanks,

Re: 3 month visitor visa?

Z Visa can not extend for a 3 month tourist visa or business visa at Beijing PSB Office directly, you should looking for a job or company which can employ you and provide a few company's documents to apply a one year residence permit for you at Beijing, otherwise you should go out of China and change your Z visa into a L tourist visa or F business come back to get a visa extension, that's all.
