~ An Inspiring Christmas Story ~ - The Gold Wrapping Paper
I don't know if this Christmas story is true, but whether or not it actually happened, it is a wonderfully inspiring story for people of any faith or no faith.
In this season of love, may we all remember the beautiful love of a small child. I wish you all a meaningful and love-filled Christmas season and new year ahead. May your days be filled with love, joy, growth, and inspiration.
THE GOLD WRAPPING PAPER - An Inspiring Christmas Story
Once upon a time, there was a man who worked very hard just to keep food on the table for his family. This particular year a few days before Christmas, he punished his little five-year-old daughter after learning that she had used up the family's only roll of expensive gold wrapping paper.
As money was tight, he became even more upset when on Christmas Eve he saw that the child had used all of the expensive gold paper to decorate one shoebox she had put under the Christmas tree. He also was concerned about where she had gotten the money to buy what was in the shoebox.
Nevertheless, the next morning the little girl, filled with excitement, brought the gift box to her father and said, "This is for you, Daddy!"
As he opened the box, the father was embarrassed by his earlier overreaction, now regretting how he had punished her.
But when he opened the shoebox, he found it was empty and again his anger flared. "Don't you know, young lady," he said harshly, "when you give someone a present, there's supposed to be something inside the package!"
The little girl looked up at him with sad tears rolling from her eyes and whispered: "Daddy, it's not empty. I blew kisses into it until it was all full."
The father was crushed. He fell on his knees and put his arms around his precious little girl. He begged her to forgive him for his unnecessary anger.
An accident took the life of the child only a short time later. It is told that the father kept this little gold box by his bed for all the years of his life. Whenever he was discouraged or faced difficult problems, he would open the box, take out an imaginary kiss, and remember the love of this beautiful child who had put it there.
In a very real sense, each of us has been given an invisible golden box filled with unconditional love and kisses from our children, family, friends and God. There is no more precious possession anyone could hold.
Wish you all a Blessed Christmas, filled with Love Joy and Happiness, and a successful year for 2012.
Merry Christmas and a Happy new year

The story is sappy, not inspiring.
Many people are given boxes filled with sh*t.
Your best friends always try to f*** your gf/wife.
Families are all dysfunctional and full of insanity.
But merry christmas anyway!

Re: ~ An Inspiring Christmas Story ~ - The Gold Wrapping ...
@osama, it's all a matter on how someone perceives things...
One day a father gave his 5 years old son for Christmas gift, a box filled with horse sh*t........ the son opened the box, saw the horse sh*t and he was tilled with joy.........
He said - "My dad is going to get me pony for Christmas" and he was happy....... so life is a matter of perception.......
Enjoy the holidays..........

Hey Dikran,
The boy in your story may be delusional and clinging to false hopes.
What if he gets just the horse poo? He'll be disillusioned when he finally realizes there's no pony.
Anyway, your original story is batshit crazy. The father loses a young daughter and is left with a f-ing box. And this is supposed to be a happy inspiring story?
I'd be more inspired by a story of The Lizard King farting in a jar.

Re: ~ An Inspiring Christmas Story ~ - The Gold Wrapping ...
Sometimes perception is the key. Sometimes it isn't. If I need a horse to, say, escape a gang of bandits, then a box of horse poo isn't much help now, is it? If I need a Kevlar vest to save my hide from bullets, that lovely Packers tee isn't going to do the trick regardless of my attitude.
Your faux enlightment act really doesn't play well. Sorry.

I would say more "optimistic" than "delusional"
The inspiration here is that no matter how harsh life can be, there is always a way to look at things in a positive way

If the bandits have faster horses, then your horse is not going to be much of help either.........

Pi and JJ, Dikran's made a friendly, well-meaning holiday post with a positive message.
And, on Christmas day, you're both shitting on him. What's wrong with you?

Alright.
There is actually wisdom in seeing the positive amidst chaos and harshness.
Thank you for the optimistic story, Dikran.

Your tale was offered in a friendly spirit, so thanks. I imagine a day of truce in this forum might be a good thing. Who knows, you may change my attitude.

Thanks Osama, I appreciate it,
Even though I often advise friends to look at things in a positive way, but sometimes I can't even do it myself...., it's easier said than done......, I guess life is harsh on all of us, but we have to hang on to it......
I think life is given to us free, but we have to suffer to keep it going.....
Cheers and wish you a successful year ahead

Thanks JJ for the post,
and since you mentioned a day of truce, why don't we try to go ahead with a year of truce......... and I think the year 2012 will be the perfect year for that..... what do you say??
Cheers and wish you'll have a wonderful year ahead

Re: ~ An Inspiring Christmas Story ~ - The Gold Wrapping ...
Thanks, but I'm anticipating another shitty year ahead.
They're all shitty.
We should stop saying "happy new year!".
We should say "have another shitty year!"
That way, there's no disillusionment.
I think we should look at things in a negative way. I really do.
Anyway, one year of truce is a bit much to ask. I can't wait to pounce all over Lizard King once this holiday phony niceness is over.

MK, we've contacted the authorities at Disney World and have asked them to warn Minnie Mouse not to bend over.
Have another shitty year!

Re: ~ An Inspiring Christmas Story ~ - The Gold Wrapping ...
You know what Osama, I always had a motto for a long time which said, "Today better than Yesterday and worse than tomorrow"....... and it's been more than 7 years it's going today worse than yesterday and worse than yesterday and so on...... but I'm not giving up, I fell down many times and I got up and tried to continue.... I'm close to 60 years old and this year I started a new venture and I don't know where it will head.......
Perhaps sometimes as you say it's good to look at things in a negative way, and when you see a small light ahead, it will bring smile on your face, but then again, when you look at things in a negative way, you might end up attracting negative thoughts and negative energy around you......
So it's up to you whether you want to see the cup half full or half empty..... now you're going to say, it doesn't matter, no matter how you look at it you're still going to drink half a glass of water.....
Physically yes....but I guess it's better to drink half a glass of water than half a glass of emptiness........ it wouldn't matter physically but in your mind it will have a big effect........ and as you know our minds control the body......
Now I'm not going to say have a good year or a shitty year, but whatever your heart desires........
By the way, what do you do??

@MK, JJ and Osama, I'm wondering if you guys know each other, I mean if you ever met, or just on Internet???
BTW, the names that you mentioned on your status, "Jamie Shorter AKA Jim Shorter, Jim Bondsman and Robert Black" are they all one person?? because I know Robert Black was deported from China and he can't come to China for I think 2 years or so....

Re: ~ An Inspiring Christmas Story ~ - The Gold Wrapping ...
Yeah, I've had some monumental setbacks, reversals of fortune, catastrophes and bad luck.
I don't think the Gods care too much if you look at things positively or negatively. They just mete out karma and experiences as they see appropriate.
Shakespeare said "There is nothing good or bad. Only thinking makes it so." (or something like that)
You can wish yourself and others a 'good' year until you're blue in the face, but if the Gods want to deal you some harsh blows, then that's what you get.
And maybe every harsh blow you're dealt is ultimately designed to bring you one step closer to God anyway.
As my man George Harrison pointed out "They've forgotten all about God. That's the only reason we exist."
I can give you my Matrix spiel if you want. We're in a parallel universe. The f***ed up one. And we need to make our way back to the Good Parallel Universe.
I don't know, man. What the f*** do I know?
So there.
Monkey King is a snob. He doesn't return my calls.

Re: ~ An Inspiring Christmas Story ~ - The Gold Wrapping ...
If you mean giving up petty bickering (especially about trivial things and/or personalities), it's an idea long overdue. I'm guilty of a good deal of that. That being agreed to, there's no reason to waith for the New Year. As Krishnamurti pointed out, if one is serious about making a change, he does it now and need not await some "propitios" day.

Are you afraid he'll make you foot the bill? Given the price of some Beijing coffeeshops, that would be worse than a violence appointment. If you ever spot a bald fat laowai with a Fu Manchu moustache, make him buy you a coffee. It'll probably be me. (If it's just some stray Bosnian or Czech, congratualtions. You just percipitated an international incident.)

Re: ~ An Inspiring Christmas Story ~ - The Gold Wrapping ...
"Reversal of Fortune" I've been having that for the past 7 years........ everything I touched went wrong, as if there was a curse on me...... there were even times where I wondered if there is really a God or not, and if there is..... does He have power over Evil????........ Things were really so bad that there were times that I even swore at Him......... but then who do we turn to in times of need???? I pray and meditate to make things easier on me.....
Any way let's not talk about this, I think it's worth while that you guys meet with each other for a coffee......
Let's see if MK would like to meet also......
Cheers
