What's up with this?
Hi all, new here.
Last couple of weeks traveling around China and living in Beijing has been very enjoyable. Beautiful country, great food.
But what's up with having 10 giggling waitresses standing around my table while I'm trying to eat, random girls wrapping their arm around me asking to take a pic with me on the streets, or while sitting writing somewhere a group of mothers dumping their crying kids next to me to take a pic.
I understand that as a 28 year old, 2 meter tall, blonde hair, blue eyed guy I stand out, but this much attention is kinda ridiculous. I'm not the first westerner these people have seen. It happens also at very touristic places. Even proffesional tour guides I just met are trying to flirt with me, asking me to go out with them for drinks, meet their friends after the tour and calling me a "bad boy". lol
Got to see the humor in these Chinese for being pretty conspicuous, but is quite odd.

Sound like a celebrity in Beijing.
OP does not enjoy being treated like a celebrity.
Comfortable.

Bench 400 or die trying.

Re: What's up with this?
Well.. sure the attention from the opposite sex is flattering and funny at times.
Like the other day, I had quite a laugh, when my female tourguide tried to jealously prevent some other girls from talking to me as if I was hers alone.
And it helps in making social contacts with locals.
But when it's everyday, several times a day, I'm not always in the mood for it.
Though mostly it strikes me as just plain odd.
A lot of Chinese women seem to be quite direct in showing that they like you. (It's debatable when it is if they truely like you or just the fact that you're different, think you're pretty, or wealthy, etc.)
Caucasian women are usually a bit more tactical in showing that they like someone.
Ha! Just noticed that thread and its fallout. So your trap has been spotted sir, I ain't gonna go there.
U jelly?
cool girl
Re: What's up with this?
seems like u are standing out good looking guy, but anyway thoes girls so direct for sure not classy or decent girls. or they are just curious or maybe hungry for you
just enjoy the attention u get. i normally think in beijing women dont look at foreigners so much. if u are pretty i might look a little for my eys, but flirting for sure i dont even have the courage to talk to you.
timing for leap, i am contented as a woman

Re: What's up with this?
Yeah, seen that a lot also, girls staring at me but when I try to talk to them they run away blushed and giggling.
If I then put a cig in my mouth and look around for a lighter, because the airports keep stealing my lighters, they come running back to light my cig and then run off again.
Indeed in for example Xi'an it's worse than in Beijing. But in Beijing it happpens a lot more compared to Shanghai and Hong Kong.
Guess it differs per city.

So I guess you're really handsome. ↖(^ω^)↗
If you wanna get rid of those girls or women, I suggest you go get a boyfriend. O(∩_∩)O~
Only kidding.

Re: What's up with this?
I don't consider myself handsome, but I am happy with the way I look and my life in general is pretty good.
It would break too many women hearts if I would get a boyfriend, so sorry men, but I can't do that.

@OP,

Were you regarded as an electric poll? It seems that you have got a lot of attention.
Comfortable.

Re: What's up with this?
I'm not quite sure with what you mean by being regarded as an utility pole in combination with that pic.
ReneeWine
Re: What's up with this?
A guy/a girl, who is tall, is called "an utility pole" in China. It is easy for him/her to get attention in China.
Comfortable.

Re: What's up with this?
when I walk down the street, women's panties fall off inadvertently
I once walked into a bar near Gulou and everyone turned their heads to look at me
At touristy places, Chinese people come up to me and want to take pictures with me, but once they find out I speak Chinese...they leave quickly, calling me a fake foreigner without blonde hair (I guess being blonde as a child doesn't cut it for them). I try to rationalize with them, using my dumbest face and repeating "Hullo" to bring them back and give me the photo op of a lifetime, but they just won't listen to reason.
yea, cools the name.

One of my teachers is half American and half Chinese. Many people think he's from Xinjiang...

It's only really noticeable in the summertime though, In the winter I can only tell by listening for the noise of the band breaking....

Re: What's up with this?
I saw a handsome guy at the front door of a bread shop in Harbin last summer. I gave him a long stare. I told my friend excitedly , "Look. How handsome that guy is! That bread shop assistant from Russia! "
"He is not from Russia. Alos he is not a shop assistant." My friend answered.
Comfortable.

Re: What's up with this?
Hahaha bummer dude.
Not sure but think it was in Guilin, I talked to a nice old lady that told me how mothers in China go to the park and show eachother pics of their sons and daughters to see who would match. She told me I should stay as it would be very easy to find me a girlfriend.

show eachother pics of their sons and daughters to see who would match
It's stupid.

Re: What's up with this?
That can't be the end of the story.
Did you bust a move on him or what?
ReneeWine
Re: What's up with this?
That guy turned his back to me as soon as he noticed me. My panties did not get enough time to fall off inadvertently.
Comfortable.

Re: What's up with this?
And there is the fault in his technique. A simple glance with a slight smile always works for the pantie dropping technique

Re: What's up with this?
Chinese tour guides typically earn a pittance of a salary so sounds like she was looking for Mr. Meal Ticket.
you sure it was China you was in? Are you sure your train didn't have little wings at the side?

My advice: color your hair black and get your skin tanned.
When work, commitment, and pleasure all become one and you reach that deep well where passion lives, nothing is impossible.
