Roommates in Beijing?

Hi, I'm new to this site. Late 20s American of Chinese heritage with pretty good mandarin. Question for folks: how common is it to find a roommate in Beijing?
As background, I'm moving to Beijing later this year for my work. I'm single, on an expat package, so could afford to live on my own. However, I figure living with roommate(s) would be a good way to expand my social circle. What do y'all think?

Hey, I stayed in Maine two years as a Chinese, thinking to visit Beijing this summer like from May, any way, it is for a friend, my college roommate, she is Beijing local, we want to rent an apartment near her company when I visit or a whole year even after summer, her parents house kinda one hour sub to DONG ZHI MEN her company, so wanna live nearer. If you do not mind I will visit her in summer like one month and location is right, leave a message!

I can see, that this message is very old, but did you found something? I have to find very soon somebody, there can take over my rent-contract of a Sharing-Apartment in WangJing, so when you should be interrested, please let me know.

I am just wondering why do people need to do this thing? To know other people? For friendship? For a date? Or they just want to? It is better for us to have communication to other to mold the friendship. Having casual dates and sometimes, a woman seeking man, vice versa. I I hope it'll help you guys.
