Last summer, I had a very pleasant experience on the Great Wall. With a chinese gf, I made it on a watch tower at the Mutianyu section. Fortunately, the weather was bad, and therefore there were not so many people around. The only guy who observed us was a french tourist who seemed very sympathetic.
The whole thing reminded me of some outdoor activities in my native swiss alps...
Now, I am planning to repeat this great experience this spring under better weather conditions. I believe that Mutianyu or Badaling are not really appropriate for that purpose.
I would be very grateful if somebody could recommend me a more adequate Great Wall section.

Who doesn't, it's not hard to it in Greatwaill if you choose the right one.
I often fantasy to do it in Foribidden city, it seems feasible, maybe some weekdays...

this is admittedly an interesting option, but after thinking about it, I must say that I couldn't take the risk that such a important cultural heritage would break down.

The Great Wallis no biggie. I've done it in the Jefferson Memorial, on the steps to the Pentagon, in the crown of the Statue of Liberty and on the back seat of a Greyhound Bus. The Great Wall is not challenging. I've yet to join the mile high club but I hope to this year.

Jinshanling. There's one watchtower about an hour walk in. We were there, looking both ways there was NO ONE to be seen for at least a mile on each side...... the rest is history.
I demand good spices.
