Attn: Western expats

I am in Chaoyang, and I was wondering if you could recommend a good bar and maybe a good restaurant that is "friendly" to westerners. Yes, I want to experience China, but I just got in today, and I want to at least find a couple of places where I can feel comfortable if I ever need to. Any recommendations on a Chaoyang bar would be great. Thanks!

Re: Attn: Western expats

you should try maggie's at ritan park, or the hard rock cafe after about 10pm.

Trust me, it's so danger.

Head towards the second silk market. Walk inside and ask where to buy some cords. You ask where to buy some cords because there ARE no cords for sale. If the man likes the look of you, he'll direct you to the third floor. There, behind a curtain is a removable bookshelf, once you go in there you will find the secret hidden bar of Beijing that is "friendly" to foreigners. It has toadstool chairs and elves for butlers, a truly magical place!

But don't tell anyone. If too many non-foreign people know, the elves get sick and die.

Look forward to working with you.

You can also try a bar called destination.

The Hard Rock Cafe was great!! It was very authentic Chinese, and I felt like I truly got a taste of real Chinese culture. Thanks so much for the recommendations!

to experience the real china, you gotta sit on a curb with a half-dozen nongs taking hits off a bottle of wood alcohol cut with green tea.

Java Joe is intermittently an unendurable ball of rock-ape turd, sun-baked but malodorous withal.

Generally the bars and restaurants around CBD and Chaoyang Park are foreigner-friendly.Try and get a hold of a copy of Agenda,City Weekend,Time Out as they have some information on what's nearby!
