"Locust world" song... wow... kinda shocking

Have you heard this popular Hong Kong song? (English subtitles)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ueNr7mfFZu8 (needs proxy, obviously)

The lyrics are about Mainlanders going to Hong Kong and being noisy, dirty and uncivilized, basically.

I knew Hong Kongers weren't crazy about the Mainlanders but this is a bit over-the-top. I'd call it racist but can the same race be racist about themselves? Confused

(Chinasmack's also talking about it)

Strange in the picture they just sit there and take it. I could not open it so I do know if they got upset or not. Maybe they could not understand it, not Manderin Chinese.

Question, I have never been to HK, I know it has it's own special rules and regulations, with that said do they have freedom of internet there? Does the great firewall extend to HK?

Well then, I guess they do have the right to laugh at mainlanders! They are better than their brothers and sisters up north!

Re: "Locust world" song... wow... kinda shocking

I understand the people of Hong-Kong for being annoyed by the behavior of mainlanders. They can be quite rude and uneducated. However, they should bare in mind that if tomorrow the mainlanders get angry and decide to boycott Hong-Kong, not spending their beautiful RMB's in this small piece of land, the song will soon change to be called "Locust, we apologize, come back." Hong-Kong people is well known for being hypocritical. At the time of the Beijing Olympics they were proud to be Chinese but they often see themselves as superior. Might be. But remember what you had to go through to reach this level of "overrated superiority", colonisation. If it were not for the English, you HK people would be another disctrit of Shen Zhen. Angel

hong kong's economy is not so dependent on mainland tourism.
a lot of the money HK makes is taken by the PRC anyway.
sure mainlanders spend a lot there but hong kong makes a lot of money outside of tourism
and even there, not so heavily from mainlanders, as they believe.

the song is a bit much, especially if sung to the people visiting there but
can't say i don't know where they're coming from.
chinese tourists are notorious.

i was in a restaurant in porto and there was a chinese group that walked in for lunch.
it was a stampede! ridiculous behavior. like they hadn't eaten in weeks!

also, at the getty i had to eventually yell at a guy in a chinese group, after asking him twice,
to turn off his annoying, loud cell phone music.
at the getty! Silly

oh yeah? well, let me ask you this: shut up!
contemporary china = crouching tension, hidden anger.

Re: "Locust world" song... wow... kinda shocking

why isn't anyone talking about the news clip with the professor guy endlessly calling HK people "dogs" and the reporter looking really uncomfortable?

someone should start a tumblr called mainlanders behaving badly or something.. pictures of guys with flat top haircuts spitting outside LV (when it's against the law in HK), women letting their children piss on the floor in the subway and coming over the border to give birth in public hospitals taking beds and services from HK women because the hospitals aren't equipped to handle the mainland influx.

not saying anyone should be racist and write songs about it and there are definitely HK businesses exploiting chinese workers, polluting the environment over the border etc. but if we're strictly talking about every day behavior, HK people aren't coming in to the mainland and doing anything worse than mainland people do in HK that's for sure.

Trust me, it's so danger.

Re: "Locust world" song... wow... kinda shocking

I think "locusts" is worse than "dogs."

maybe, but in the communist vernacular I think dogs, especially "running dogs" does seem fairly bad.

I totally agree with you guys comments regarding the behavior of mainlanders, a total shame. However, The Lizard King, Hong-Kong economy does higly depend on mainlanders tourism since nowaday 54% of tourists in Hong-Kong are mainlanders. Also, more importantly, 99.9% of the stuff exported and sold from HK are made in the mainland, again, pissing them off is not a good idea. I also hate the fact that HK people don't consider themselves as Chinese. They are Chinese. And more than one I came across rude Hong-Kongers like I woulda in the mainland.
