Beware of Transcription Company Scams
I was recently dealing with a person (wetranslate-allen@gmail.com) as a result of a job posting on the beijinger and my story will hopefully serve as a warning. After emailing back and forth in October about doing some translation work for his company everything seemed great. I didn't hear back from him for a while and then in December he contacted me with work. I worked hours and hours for him, I was assured that at the end of the month I could come out to his shijingshan area office (wanda plaza) to receive my payment. Every correspondence with him was extremely professional. A month came and went and I was promised payment after Chinese New Year, then it was "after this last video is done". Well the millionth video is done and mysteriously he stops answering his email and phone (182-0124-0421).
I was duped into believing that he was a legitimate businessman because I am an honest and trusting person and ended up doing 6 weeks worth of work for a con-man that I am sure he has sold off to someone else. I was doing transcription of videos from American universities (Harvard and MIT, please message me if you see these with english subtitles).
The moral of the story is: if a job seems too good to be true it probably is, don't do work for someone you have never met before, and don't get screwed over like I did.

Re: Beware of Transcription Company Scams
I bet he will use your work, I found mine posted on the videos section of 163.com (http://v.163.com/movie/2010/12/P/B/M7BN0P0OK_M7BP7JAPB.html) this is one that I transcribed and he uploaded without paying me. What e-mail and phone number has he been using to contact me? PM me if you want to talk about this more

Re: Beware of Transcription Company Scams
THE same thing happened to me!!!
The guy was named Mike Sun or another pseudonym, the company was called “Simotrans” This 100% a scam. After 3 transcriptions for them, I gave them my account information and they told me they were going to send me the money. This never happened. And when I tried emailing and calling them they never answered. Email address: mike.sun.trans@gmail.com
Please pass the word around! I am sure this has happened to other people, so just be careful! There is a lot of scum bags, trying to take advantage of foreigners.

Thanks for posting the name and company that he gave you. Foreigners, if it seems too good to be true it probably is. Just keep in mind how shady business can be in China and don't do work for people you haven't met. I'm sure I will never catch this guy or get paid back for my hard work but the best we can do is make sure nobody else falls for this! What number did 'Mike Sun' give you? So far I have collected 182-0124-0421 and 183-1070-5240 as numbers this guy uses.
