What is it like to live in Beijing's pollution for 1+ year?

Hi Everyone,

I have been researching whether or not to come over to Beijing and teach english. In 2013 I visited Beijing for about a week, and experienced some heavily polluted days around 400+ on the ratings scale. At the time I just saw it as a fascinating, stoic experience, however I have always wondered what the long term effects might be living in that environment for 1+ years. I understand that the pollution varies and there are good days as well as bad.

So I just want to get some opinions/advice from those who have been living in Beijing in the pollution. How are you coping? Is it something that you eventually just ''get over'' or does it cause constant problems like headaches/coughing/sickness?

Any information would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance,

Trade-off is a hyphenated word.
