the Beijinger – November 2012: Flour Power

November is the time of getting a new winter coat and waiting for your heating to come on. Brrrr. With that in mind, we bring you our Dough Issue to warm you through on these cold, lonely nights. This month's Cover Feature is all kinds of dough-related delight, from a dumpling taxonomy to Beijing landmarks rendered in the squishy stuff.

We've also managed to cook up enough content to fill the rest of the issue. In the FOOD & DRINK section, we've given a permanent home to last month's Cocktail Profiler feature, with Apothecary and Bar Veloce's Leon Lee the first to set the bar. We've given instant noodles a good going-over for you in Taste Test and we have set pumpkins against each other in a sweet versus savory battle to the death. Our cover star, Julian Tavalin, tells us where he'd eat if he was leaving town in Last Orders and we've bravely found out who has the largest drinks selections in town in our Drinks Feature. And that’s not even mentioning our reviews of the newest bars and restaurants.

Our GO section features gadgets and gizmos for bakers, we've checked out the new venues for you and we've asked a doctor how us fast-living expats can dodge diabetes. We've also put our money just above where our mouths are with a feature on Movember, been a little scared by the Satanists of Dark Funeral and snatched a selection of superb prizes for you to win in our Featured Giveaways.

We'd like you to MEET some of our new friends. Troy Reilly of The Beijing Beatles lists his listening likes in Playlist, Miss World contestant and China superstar Mariatu Kargbo tells us about the uniforms she has worn and Fan Popo takes a break from documentaries to take part in Screentime. We've also got the Intercontinental Beichen's David Nowak battling Mastermind, Paloma Sanchez revealing what she's been reading in Bookshelf and interviews with the brains behind the British Ball and the Scottish Ball. We've also managed to find space for architect Yung Ho Chang to wax lyrical about the hutongs and what Beijing should really look like.

Finally, we look into the the dangers of outer space, the Peking Man’s "Battle of Batman" and enough Events and Directory listings to guarantee that all your weekends leave you feeling full. Get a copy around town, get the PDF here or read it right now.
