In contrast, I could simply roll up with my Australian passport and get an entry stamp at Bangkok Airport, no questions asked…"

How cool is that?...’"

We asked Dr. William Chickering, one of four American Board-certified Emergency Physicians at BJU, a few questions about it. Dr. Chickering has lived in Beijing almost four years after time on the faculty of the Medical College of Virginia. He has practiced for prolonged periods in Guatemala, Cameroon, Dominican Republic, and Korea..."

Thursday, August 19 to Wednesday, August 25
The big news on the live music front this week is the Max Star Festival, which kicked off last Monday and continues until Sunday. Sure, the line-up comprises a lot of familiar bands, but at least this festival is easy to access. It’s in the picturesque surrounds of Ditan Park, a short walk from Yonghegong subway station. Check out our post on the Beijinger blog for the full schedule.
For those who have already seen every band Beijing has to offer, Japanese punk-pop legends Shonen Knife blow into town on Friday, to play in the suitably grungy surrounds of Mao Livehouse. Even better, the visitors are supported by our very own power trio Hedgehog.
Also flying in from Japan is DJ neroDoll (aka Hiloco, pictured above), touching down at Coco Banana on Saturday night - an opportunity to see if she plays with as few clothes on as her publicity shots suggest.
If you’re after quieter pursuits, BC MOMA continue their tribute to the king of silent comedy Charlie Chaplin this week, with a series of Chaplin classics screening until Saturday. The festival opening last Friday was a huge event, with lots of local media on hand and a sell-out crowd of several hundred. See our post on the Beijinger blog for the full screening schedule.
