Thursday, July 8 to Wednesday, July 14 Things have been a little quiet on the film front for a few weeks, but this week offers a couple of juicy pickings for cinephiles or those seeking air conditioned shelter from the sweltering summer heat. BC MOMA is currently playing host to the Irish Film Festival, featuring a range of recent Irish titles with classics such as My Left Foot and Michael Collins. Also at BC MOMA on Friday night is Lala’s Gun, the latest installment in the cinema’s Young Chinese Filmmakers Showcase, bringing Beijingers the latest in innovative Chinese cinema. Over the weekend, UCCA wind up their showcase of International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) titles, featuring some of the best documentaries of the past decade. On the live music front Usher plays Wukseong, bluegrass babe Abigail Washburn (pictured above) plays The One on Friday night, and Canadian rockers Jets Overhead hit 2 Kolegas on Saturday night.
