Pasty

1. An adhesive nipple-covering designed to reveal as much of the breast as possible while falling short of full toplessness. I assume the word is pronounced “paste-ee” as it derives from “paste” (the coverings are pasted onto the nipple with fixative)

2. A savoury, filled pastry case closely associated with Cornwall in the UK and generally accepted to be delicious. The traditional Cornish pasty (pronounced with a short “a” as in “hat”) contains potato, turnip, onion and beef.

The management at Sequoia café have sensible opted to stock the latter.

In fact, they have two kinds of pasty on offer: chicken and beef. I prefer the beef.

The pasty is designed to be a meal in itself and as such requires no accompaniment though you might consider a beverage for refreshment.

I would recommend asking the staff to heat up your pasty unless you are ordering it “to go”. They speak English here so there’s no need for: “ee ger chicken pasty, err ... he ee bay coffee errr ... with just a little milk shay shay nee”.

If you are the kind of person who insists on going through such a ghastly and embarrassing rigmarole then please don’t do it when I’m within earshot.

Other details of the café?

It’s a café: chairs, tables, cups, saucers. That sort of thing.
