I'm not American and, frankly speaking, do hate American food, so I just can't explain why Union has become my favorite restaurant in BJ. But it definitely has! First time I got there by a sheer chance and was in my worst critical mood. But somehow I left the place an hour and a half later feeling completely happy. Everything felt exactly right there - food, wine, interior design, atmosphere, service - I just couldn't find any faults, though tried hard. Since then we go there at least 3 times a month and these are invariably the most pleasant nights out. Actually every time my husband and I set off to dine in some new place, we have to resist an urge to return to Union again - and we have to use all our will to keep off it (our main argument is that after all, in BJ there are so many nice restaurants to go to, we just must explore as many as possible - just in case we come across something as pleasant). As for the food - we never order burgers there, but their steaks, esp. the one wrapped in bacon, are surely one of the best in town. Salads are very good, too. And their hot chocolate cake with a runny filling is just perfect. The waiters are very attentive but not annoyingly overattentive, the manager is very friendly and the public is usually quite nice. In a word, I do recommend this place.
