Could Improve
I really was quite enamored by this bar when I first found it. I think it's a very cool concept and decor, if a bit Manhattanite (I don't have a huge problem with that. Have you seen some of the other places around town?)Exposed brick and the cavernous ceilings are a nice touch and as a whole, this place definitely has a good start carving it's niche in the Beijing scene. It's a lounge and you can really do that there.
I went back a few more times and although I've never had a problem getting in, with the drinks or whatever, I keep on hearing a stream of negative things about it. And looking a bit more closely, I think it's not surprising at all. I could see how it could go bad. It's a touch snooty. Not the crowd, but I get the feeling from management. Which is a little strange when you consider management has always acted polite towards me but there is a pronounced tinge of condescension in there. And I don't know, perhaps its the fact that they so seem so ready to alienate a lot of their customers. (Are you sure that's good business strategy?)
D lounge is a cool addition to the nightlife here but the damning thing is, they know they're cool. I just think that the way things are going, people could tire of it and any merits could quickly be forgotten. I like it, don't love it. If I had a bad experience there, I would be turned off this lounge immediately.
So, will have to see in the future about this place. But I would still encourage others to try it out and see for yourself.
