Burned Out on Blue Castle Branch
I had a membership to this place from when it was Evolution Fitness and stuck with them through the handover.
Things were reasonable at the start, but things started going downhill after Evolution pulled out and Ozone took over.
To be fair, the two companies are about the same as far as level of service and management (so I'm not implying that Evolution - which is now defunct - is better than Ozone), but my experience here is all-too typical of many gym-goers in Beijing.
I prefer(red) swimming as my main workout routine - the pool here (35-meters, if I am not mistaken) is serviceable enough when it's not crowded. But up until I stopped going a few months back, it had become increasingly impossible to get in a decent swim with all the people in the pool, especially during lunch time when the big corporate membership crowds take over and basic swimming etiquette (i.e. sticking to one lane, not milling about in the middle) goes down the drain.
Then there was the extra RMB 500 "towel fee" I got rooked into paying when I last renewed my membership (over a year and a half ago, and before the change of owners) - it essentially turned out to be a ploy to squeeze extra money out of me at a time when Evolution was going out of business and it never sat right with me that I ended up paying extra for what eventually reverted back to a standard operating procedure after Ozone took over.
The next thing to go were the soap and shampoo in the showers, and throughout my membership here there has been a constant practice of "disinfecting" the shower room flip flops by throwing them in a large bucket of tepid, brown water, and I was constantly having to battle gym staff for the few remaining open lockers in the swimming pool locker room.
Many of the problems described above are typical of gyms in Beijing, and yes, I got a few extra months tacked onto my existing membership as recompense for the less-than-smooth ownership transition, but unfortunately Ozone's less-than-stellar management and the niggling skimping on materials have completely turned me off to this place - hence I let my membership run out without renewing.
