Awesome duck in a really hidden city!
My boyfriend made reservation for new year's eve dinner and I was really looking forward to beijing roast duck in beijing for the first time! Unfortunately, the taxi driver dropped us off nowhere near Duck de Chine and we were walking around asking for directions and no one seemed to know where it was! So after 45mins of walking in the cold, we decided to call the search off and headed back to our hotel.
So when I came back to visit my boyfriend after a month, we were adamant to go dine there and my boyfriend again made reservation for Chinese new year reunion dinner. This time, we did our homework and took the subway and walked a little, which wasn't too hard at all. When we got there, we immediately liked the ambience and understood why not many people knew of its existence as it is located away from main roads. Since it was CNY eve, there weren't many people and our duck came quite fast. We were greeted with a gong when they brought out the duck and the chef started carving it. We were served with the carved duck coupled with special swirly sauce, vegetables and the white pancake/crepe. When I took the first bite, it was like love at first taste. The skin was crispy yet succulent and the meat was just nice, not dry at all. We ate the skin on its own and wrapped the duck meat in the crepe with veg and sauce. It was the best beijing duck I've tasted so far! I refused to have any dessert after because I didn't want to remove that delicious taste from my mouth. That's how good it was. We concluded that the effort of looking for this hidden city was all worth it!
