New Ganges

Review of Ganges Indian Restaurant
5

Two of us tried the new Ganges above Paddy’s this past week. My first impression was, “thank God Kamat’s is gone”. You can just tell when walking in that this is a professional operation. The manager met us at the door, everything was super clean, and as a concept it is consistent. Except for a few design upgrades (the booth seats are more comfortable), the restaurant looks very similar to the Ganges located elsewhere in the city. I also really like the screen behind the buffet. This time around we tried different menu items so I can’t provide a 1:1 comparison however I will comment on what we ordered. The lamb samosa was lightly fried and filled with ground lamb. By itself it was good but exceptional topped with both the mint and tamarind sauces. Our Chicken Jafrezzy was a big departure from dishes I’ve ordered in the past. Slightly spicy, the chicken was in a tomato sauce with large chunks of onion, green and red peppers. The mushroom soup was made from a corn flour stock with bits of rice and lentil for texture. Recommend you order the soup before a spicy dish. The last dish was a mildly spicy lamb madras which had large chunks of lamb in a brown curry sauce. The naan looked too good eat with the bread almost artistically cut in different shapes topped with garlic and butter. Both Tiger and Carlsberg were on tap but I preferred the Tiger. Service was excellent.

Re: New Ganges

wow, that'sa coincidence, after a few very bad reviews, there's suddenly a very good 5 star review, and such a detailed description of all the food and ingredients, almost looks like this review is written from somebody who works for GANGES,maybe the boss even?

Re: New Ganges

Nice try. No, I don't work for Ganges. I don't have an MO. Do you?

Re: New Ganges

Ok. This pisses me off now. I initially posted bad review about Ganges above Paddy's because I found roaches in my Paneer tikka masala on October 6th- and today, Beijinger contacted me saying that the owner of the restaurant called me out as their competitor trying to spread false rumor about their new location.

I had to prove my identity that I was not a competitor but just a customer to get my post back, which seems like not restored yet. However, eventually later today, I got a letter from the general manager of the Ganges with an apology and claiming that their kitchen has improved (in a day?). So after reading that email, I have decided to forgive them - actually I am not even that angry and I don't think my posting was emotional at all - it's more about letting people know what could happen ahead of time, so they know what to expect if they decided to go there.

Anyways, now I am questioning if it's ok for someone to post their own ad on the review section, and framing the true reviewer as a competitor. Personally I think, it's really f***ed up.

I don't give a sh*t if the Beijinger get rid of my posting again or Ganges frame me as their competitor - whatever happened is happened..

Re: New Ganges

Hey Ji.b, thanks so much for your original post... there are a lot of people who post b.s. reviews, but I saw your response to my questioning the review and I thank you for posting this follow-up here... really? They removed your post before contacting you? That seems just...wrong. I hope it gets restored!

Re: New Ganges

Went to the slt branch again recently.
Aside from the service being a little all over the place the food was still great.

Anyway....if you want to know why your Ganges review was specially removed over other bad reviews the answer seems pretty obvious to me.

There was an ad for the DZM branch of Ganges on the home page of the Beijinger when I last checked.
Doubt you'd be having this problem if the ad wasn't there.
