Ghettofabulous

Review of Carrefour Chuang Yi Jia Store
1

French thirld world service in Beijing. Be prepared to find very little in the way of range or quality and then spend 40 minutes standing in a state of chronic inertia in what passes for a queue (with Chinese characteristics). The place wasn't even that busy, just a retardedly low number of open checkouts.

Re: Ghettofabulous

I agree with your sentiments especially about the low amount of checkouts open. It drives me crazy when you get up there and wait 40 minutes just to get out of the store.

Re: Ghettofabulous

Agreed as well, for any Carrefour I've visited in Beijing. It's gotten to the point that if I have to pick up less than 5 items, it's not worth the wait and hassle, so I pay the extra few kuai at the convenience store in my apartment complex.

Re: Ghettofabulous

I'd rather go to a supermarket further out that's good. Recently I went Auchan and couldn't believe how clean it was and the selection was great. I went to that Carrefour today and the selection was even worse than usual. Seriously no deodorant, hardly any spices? There were maybe six checkouts open out many. Maybe they're going to close, maybe that's why it's gone so downhill.

Re: Ghettofabulous

I think having inadequate checkout clerks is some kind of Carrefour policy in China - perhaps to create the illusion of bustling business.

Re: Ghettofabulous

Not strictly talking about just Carrefour....but if they run out of something here like a non-Chinese spice or something they tend to run out of it forever.

Used to get breadcrumbs in Carrefour every now and again, went there after they ran out and no one there even had any clue that they ever had breadcrumbs.

Asked several different people since, "Nope, never had that".
