What a disappointment
Review of The Brick
I used to go the brick in 2009, it was then a great bar that I stared 5 stars.
I have been there last Sunday and what a disappointment !
-They don't serve their delicious food anymore, lily burger only ! and still, you have to go by yourself.
-No peanuts anymore
-I have the feeling prices got higher
-Only Chinese waiters, no foreigners
-The place was empty and dead...
I talk to the waiters, they said that last year the owner changed from American to English guy.
Damn another good place that disappeared

I think it was just an off night. Usually a pretty good group and lots of fun. Try again and I bet you like it.

If can do one thing, would be great.

Odd, I moved here in 2009 in February on that street and the brick opened that September...... I don't even think a time machine could have helped you visit it in 2008.
I demand good spices.

The Brick opened August 15, 2009.
Sometimes there is food, sometimes there isn't. You can still order 串儿 from across the street. It's best if they don't make food so you don't smell like fryer when you leave.
What's wrong with Gary? You need a foreign bartender otherwise the drinks don't taste good? Apothecary only has an all Chinese staff and they're damn good.
Prices, of course, went up. Are you an idiot? The CPI index rose 4.1% in Dec '11 alone. You expect places to keep prices the same?
Hope you were drunk when you wrote that review because you're an idiot.

I guess if people who don't agree with your own personal taste are idiots you should be a very lonely smart guy.

My mistake, 2009.

Your comment was full of negatives that aren't 100% true so had to come back at them.
I do prefer places where foreigners like to work because it's usually more trustworthy. I was just standing up for Gary because he is Chinese and nothing wrong with him.

Re: What a disappointment
Well as the OP might not have imagined Sunday nights aren't typically a popular night at a local neighborhood pub type bar such as the Brick, though obviously we can find exceptions to what I just said, this is why there were no foreign bartenders as it is there day off.
No peanuts....sh*t...nothing I love more than sticking my hand into a pit of food that had been picked at by those who have been walking the clean streets of Beijing...How dare they!
Gary is the man, makes great drinks and conversation, he needs no defending really, say hi and get to know him, just b/c he isn't foreign doesn't mean he kicks less ass
No people at the bar huh, well I guess you should of brought your friends...oh wait they had something else to do because it was a Sunday...damn your friends are lame can't wait till you call them out in your next review entitled, "My Friends What a Disappointment"
The Brick is better than ever....hands down...get terminated and make conversation not excuses as to why you didn't have a good time.....
