overpriced, just for expats who live in the bubble and get paid in pounds

You actually pay around 10 times the price of other Beijing's hospitals. There are still good hospitals in Beijing which are a lot cheaper and with good quality personnel and equipments

I would rather say this hospital is for people with insurance and do not pay their own doctor bills. But agree there are much better hospitals in Beijing, international and local. BJU is loosing it, customer service and quality of doctors are going south for many months now.

Even people with medical insurance have to face the result of high price hospitals like the mentioned one. Some insurance companies are already starting to ask for a "China mark-up" of up to 10% (at least for new contracts) because cost in China are higher then elsewhere.

Such as..?

it depends, there are different hospitals for different needs. A good suggestion is Peking University 1st Hospital, near Ping an li

But what makes foreigners go to United Family Hospital, are mainly 3 reasons:
1.lack of information about the quality of hospitals in Beijing, thinking your organs will be sold, thinking the place will be dirty and so on...
2.United Family has an English Speaking staff, but many other hospitals in Beijing will also have doctors able to communicate fairly in English.
3.Many hospitals in Beijing do not respect privacy, the doctors, as a production line, will not take much long to ask you questions and to take care of your need, they believe United Family would be the place for that.

But in the end, things are a lot more expensive and the service not that good. For example the most important doctors, researches in China they usually are in Beijing, and you think they work at United Family? No, they will be in military hospitals, university hospitals and so on
