Huge ripoff for unbelievably mediocre food

I ordered spanish omelette with sausage, and pancakes.

They serve German sausage rather than the kind of sausage that you'd expect at an American breakfast place. That's okay, but the sausage doesn't taste good. The hashbrown is way worse than McDonald's and the ham tastes like cardboard.

The omelette is bad too. The pancakes are good.

The price is remarkably high.

I was surprised that a place like this got packed on Saturday afternoon. I'd rather eat McD's RMB 30 breakfast plate than their food. It seems to me that the only thing they've got is the location. It's way worse (not even comparable) than old-time American diners like Steak & Eggs. I'm pretty sure Steak & Eggs can sell even if it were in the US. But it's so hard to picture Lily's American Diner doing that because no one would eat its food unless it's pro bono. Quite an illustration of the downfall of Beijing's food scene.

I am a Lily's die-hard. Their menu is hit or miss, but their jumbo breakfast is great (I skip the greasy hash browns and get grilled tomatoes instead) and their guacamole (fixed fresh at your table) is genuinely one of the best I've had in Beijing

Different strokes for differnet folks, I guess. I think the Jumbo Breakfast at Lily's is great as well. And I agree with the third poster, I skip the hashbrowns but go for home-fried potatoes. As for the sausages, they are the exact type of sausages I would expect at a Canadian diner. Finally, at 60 something rmb, it's cheaper, better, and bigger than the equivelant jumbo breakfast at Blue Frog.

Oh, btw, I don't think 'pro bono' means what you think it means.
