In an area severely lacking good cocktail bars (the closest is perhaps Maomaochong, and even that is two blocks west), Mona provides a much needed hangout for a quiet late-night drink near Dongsi. Bartender Charlie Guo is friendly and happy to provide cocktails catered to your tastes. The venue is neat and relaxed without being pretentious and never feels cramped. There's no indoor toilet but the public bathroom is only a few meters away.
At RMB 50 for classic cocktails and a little more for the house specials, prices are reasonable and allow for a few in one sitting. My favorite off the specials menu is the Quasimodo, which makes for a tart subsitute to an Old Fashioned (which Guo also makes well), and the perfect drink for the current cold weather.
