Catch the Warmly Soulful Singing of Rising R&B Star Avery Sunshine at Blue Note, Aug 25-26

If you like Erykah Badu and Jill Scott, you'll love Avery Sunshine.

Exclaim! magazine – in a rare 9/10 review of her recently released album Twenty Sixty Four –  calls the Atlanta, Georgia-based songstress "one of R&B's best-kept secrets for the better part of the last decade." Both her warm, cheery vocals and deft piano playing have helped Sunshine earn accolades from Patti Labelle, Rahsaan Patterson and other giants of the genre.

Sunshine doesn't limit herself to R&B, though, mixing in elements of jazz, gospel, and soul in a style she describes as "jazz-go-soul." That'll be more than apparent as you listen to Twenty Sixty Four, her third album. Standouts include "I Just Don't Know," which mixes soulful retro instrumentation with modern lyricism about Sunshine creeping on her ex's Facebook to catch glimpses of how that former love moved on. Meanwhile, "Kiss and Make It Better," boasts brassy, big-band horn blasts and soaring violins. It's both a breezily accessible album and a deeply emotional listen. We also recommend her appearance on NPR's Tiny Desk concert series of stripped-down shows, which will give you a glimpse of her performing chops.

Fans of uplifting numbers that sound both timeless and of the moment should be sure to stop by Blue Note for what is sure to be a show-stopping gig from this songstress.

Avery Sunshine will perform at Blue Note on August 25-26. Tickets start at RMB 360. For more information, click here.
