Come Together For a Night of Beatles Covers at Mao Livehouse Wukesong, Dec 9

If you don't care too much for money, 'cause money can't buy you love, then you're in luck. That's right: on Dec 9, the recently opened Mao Livehouse Wukesong will dedicate its stage to a night of Beatles tributes, with free entry.

Dubbed "Tonight, We Stand for The Beatles" the event kicks off at 6pm with salons in Chinese, before a handful of local bands take to the stage to sing some of the Liverpool legends' greatest hits. The event is being put on by EZFM of China Radio International and the night's masters of ceremony will be Zhong Qiu, Li Yuan, Fang Zhou and Sookie, who host the station's flagship program Music Matters.

One of the bands that will be digging into the Fab Four's back catalog is Beijing rock troupe Casino Demon. Frontman Wang Zi says the show will be special for him both as a performer and as a music nerd. "Actually, I typically don’t like cover songs at concerts, but this is a Beatles tribute show, man! If I wasn't  playing, then I would buy a ticket because I love the best band in the history of the world."

Wang Zi went on to say that he's looking forward to playing "Nowhere Man," with his bandmates, a deep cut from The Beatles' 1965 classic Rubber Soul. "I listened to that album five times per day when I was like 12 or 13 years old, and “Nowhere Man” was one of my favorite songs off it."

Of all the Fab Four, Wang Zi says he likes "John Lennon a little more than the other three guys. I've been to one of Paul’s concerts, and collected all of George’s solo records. But I just feel John is a more interesting guy and had something more behind him." Wang Zi, however, did not offer up his thoughts on Ringo, who is by far the most important Beatle according to the irrefutable opinion of this article's author.

The promoters say the suggested dress code for men is a tie or bow tie, and short hair or a short skirt for women. They went on to say in a written statement: "If you are a fan of The Beatles, this is one night that you should not miss. If you are not a fan of The Beatles, this is one chance to be one."

We Stand With The Beatles will be held at Mao Livehouse Wukesong on Dec 9 from 6pm onward. It will begin with a "salon" talk by several high profile guests in Chinese only, followed by sets from cover bands who will sing their favorite Beatles songs and play other music in both English and Chinese. the Beijinger is a sponsor for the event.
