Mongolian Folk Artists Hosoo and Shi Yan
Born in the heart of the Altai Mountains, Hosoo comes from a long line of traditional Mongolian folk musicians and has honed his craft touring with the Mongolian National Arts Troupe for years. His touring with his band Hosoo & Transmongolia has also taken him to 76 countries, acting as a Mongolian cultural ambassador. Aotu Space screens Written In Dust, a modern silent film that looks at young migrants seeking the new life that Beijing promises. 9th Tulip Festival at International Flower Port of Beijing
This year's Tulip Festival is packed with five outdoor areas displaying over 4 million tulips, including a number of rare varieties, and also has performances on weekends. The Ming and the Manchus: A Walk and Discussion at the Forbidden City
This walk with The Hutong will take you behind the red walls of the Forbidden City and paint a vivid picture of the private palaces, gardens, courtyards, temples, and thrones that the emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties ruled China from for nearly 600 years.You'll also learn about what life was like for the men and women who lived and worked in the palace, who built it and why, and what the role of the eunuchs served as the enclosed city's day to day servants. Flea Market + Zero Waste Day
Beijing's biggest proponents of the zero waste lifestyle will gather in the beautiful courtyard setting of Dengshikou's 27 Yuan this Saturday. The event kicks off with a round of yoga, giving the 30-plus vendors time to set up and sell their eco-friendly wares and teach Beijingers about composting, simple DIY tricks for your home, and the environment at large. There will also be food, drink, and music to keep the party going throughout the day. The Feminist Tour
Following the success of their sold-out International Women's Day tour, Newman Tours took heed and now offers this special female-centric tour through the hutongs once again. The tour will teach guests about the heroic revolutionary female writers, an assassin, and the last Empress of China, as well as many other notable female characters in Chinese history, proving how Beijing's most famous women were anything but subservient.
