Why Wait? Get Diabetes Now With Topwin's New Cronut Peddler

Update (May 13, 2019): Do has since closed, and for now has no plans to reopen elsewhere.

There are indulgences, and then there’s the shamelessly lip-coating, sweet-tooth-tinglingly-good desserts at Do in Sanlitun’s Topwin Center. Though not an official cronut shop (the New York-founded donut-croissant combination that became one of the most widely discussed food crazes in years circa 2013), this Sanlitun shop's staff say they can make that famed dessert with the best of ‘em. RMB 58 each might seem a bit steep, but you won't mind much once you see the portion size and sheer amount of toppings on these beasts, both of which are more generous than your average main, let alone your dessert.

The decor is hip-hop-meets-skater-boy certified fresh, with swear words strewn along the walls, '90s hip-hop blaring from the speakers, neon lights gleaming overhead, and glowing cubes for seating. It's an atmosphere akin to a Busta Rhymes video, and probably not somewhere you'd take gran when she's in town.

But who cares if the wall is telling you to "F**k off," what we're really here for is the motherf**kin' cronuts (sorry, gran). First, choose an ice cream, tiramisu, or caramel base upon which your heart attack on a plate shall rest. From there, watch the server construct the monstrosity of cream, sprinkles, syrup, and cookie crumbs that'll have you eyeing the door.

Sinking our teeth into Diabetes Mountain, we were instantly struck by the croissanty consistency of the dough, which thankfully isn't rendered moot by all the toppings stacked on top. The only drawback? It's tough to take even one bite without having the remainder smeared all over your mug, let alone eat the whole thing unscathed (did someone say dirty bun?).

While the offerings here are too rich and extravagant to keep you coming back on a regular basis, Do's fun cronuts make for a great occasional treat for anyone with a sweet tooth and a penchant for looking like they've regressed to being a one year old. Expect these all over a WeChat feed near you.
